I recently aqcuired a 92 legacy with the 2.2 NON turbo from my cousin...he thinks the transmission is shot in it, but from the searching i did on this forum before i joined it...i have a feeling it could just be a vehicle speed sensor (only found one topic, but the issues the person was having are the exact issues this car is having.)

I'll probably be coming on here pretty often in the coming months for tips and tricks on getting the most i can out of the motor and suspension/steering, because i plan to use this thing for 4 cylinder racing at the toledo speedway. So far the only regulation i know if is that it can't be turbo or supercharged. I'll be calling sometime this week to get all the information i can.

Anyone else here race their lego in left turn fashion?

Care to elaborate on the problem that the car is doing?

sure, i haven't driven it yet to see from a personal standpoint what it's doing...but from what he says it gets up to about 45 MPH and then just basically goes into a neutral state from there...just revs but no results at the wheels

i see this was moved...i put it in the engine section because i saw it has more posts, and i'd also like tips on modifying just about everything to get any gains that i can out of this thing

no big deal really, because the first thing i have to do is find out whats wrong with it

And of course, welcome to the BBS.

Is it a manual or auto? It may be as simple as a slipping clutch if it's a manual.

There's a wealth of knowledge to found on the BBS if you do some genuine searching and there has been plenty of discussion on squezzing the last drops out of our NA's.

This is a pretty active board, just ask your question where it's best suited and it'll get answered :).

DANG i thought i covered everything in the initial post, and of course i missed the most obvious

it's an auto, and from the extensive searching i've done here...i only saw one post from about 2-3 years ago with someone having the same issue, and said he was getting a trouble code for vehicle speed sensor 1

EDIT:

also if i remember correctly while installing a stereo system in the car a while back, we accidentally figured out how to run the OBD and i think thats the same code he was getting back then...when i get the car i'll drive it and see what i can find out, then report back what i find if i need help

If it gets to 45 then it is like neutral, then your tranny is shot, it has no functioning upper gears. It probably only has 1st and 2nd gear, and I bet third and fourth are toast. Bet the tranny fluid smells burnt.

If that is the case, better start looking for a used tranmsission.
good luck.

VSS would not cause your tranny to lose its gears.
sorry.

I wouldn't resolve to saying the whole tranny is bad until you have a chance to actually take a good look at it. A good fluid change should be the first thing you do before looking into other transmissions. Mind you I'm no 4eat expert.

As far as what will mate with it, any subaru transmission will bolt to the EJ22e (aside from maybe the STi 6sp).

I moved it because this issue is a transmission issue.

Feel free to post specific questions about the different components you want to modify in the respective forums.

Also, I'd recommend pulling the ECU & TCU codes if you have not already done that.

How to do that can be found on my website under notes & tips, engine related & trans related
