Post by 91turbogsx »

Hey guys i'm new to the Subaru world but heard 2.5 headers will fit my car. I have a '92 Legacy L wagon. I need a header and was wondering if this would fit. Ebay Header

If you are trying to make more power, a header is not where I'd start in a Legacy...

But yes...it should fit

No i'm not looking for more power really. I need a replacement and I figured why not just get a header. Unless someone has a stock one for cheap! Will I be able to bolt up the stock catback to that header or would it have to be custom?

I would check with member Blackbart about a used manifold...

As far as fitment, I am only familiar with Turbos, but I am thinking that some custom work would have to be done.

It WILL FIT......BUT...........

It wont fit the rest of your exhaust.

ALLLLLLLLLL headers (RS, LEGACY, WRX, STI ) fit our stuff, except for the dreaded single port 2.2.

The problem is that while the header fits our engine, ie, bolts up to our heads, the END of the header tends to end in weird places and have different connnection sections.

If you have an exhaust shop that is willing to look the other way, then you can get that header and have them modify the rest of your exhaust system to match. BUt........If they don't know you, they will tell you to get lost since you are going to drive in with an exist FACTORY header with a catalytic converter. The new header DOES NOT have a catalytic converter. Therefore the exhaust shop technically faces a $10,000 federal fine for changing the two.

But like I said, if you know them, or someone adept with a welder, it will work.

Ok i kinda figured i'd have to make a custom header back. I can make one myself so that's not a problem. But anyways thanks for the info. Anyone have a stock good condition header they wanna part with?

umm.. is your car a Turbo? If you've got a 92L Wagon, that WRX header isn't going to work, as it's for a turbo. Maybe something for a 2.5rs might help you out, then you'd need to make a custom mid pipe. Your 92 should have the cat as part of the front Y-pipe. So nothing off a new scoobie is gonna have this. Depending on where you live, you might not be able to buy one used either (illegal to sell used cats in NY and some other states). You'd be best off finding someone local with a parts car and getting one. Of, if you're handy with a welder, make one.

Umm.. Did you look at the auction? 2.5 RS non-turbo there buddy. Have another look. It'll work with the 'fore mentioned details.
