LSD axles

Post by MPtyza »

I've been searching all over for a while now. I've heard that the LSD equipped '91 Turbo's used different rear axles from the open diff Legacy's. Is there any truth in this? I believe mine has the rear LSD, and I need both rear axles

My car failed state inspection yesterday, and I now have a long list of shit to fix on it.

Both rear inner cv boots are torn (more like sliced with a razor blade  )
One of the front cv boots is torn
One tie rod boot is torn or missing or something
Something about a sway bar bracket or something is missing.
Both corner lights need to have amber reflectors (damn previous owner)
ebrake needs adjustment (I've known this, and I can't adjust it, the whole thing spins with the nuts)

My dad took my list/receipt or something because I can't find it right now.

boots fail you for inspection in PA?

missing bracket is a missing broken suspension part, that's to fail on in any state.

if it's a post face lift car, then there is no amber section in the corner lenses, that's factory.

If you used normal male drive shafts without special LSD Stub axles then it won't be LSD, it'll become open diff.

All the 90-94 legacy rear axles are female, NOT male.

You can put in new n/a axles, it is the stubs between the axle and the diff that are special.
LSD diffs and non-LSD diffs have different stubs, the difference is on the inside of the diff, they look the same on the outside.
The actual axles are no different (on the 90-94 Legs) between the LSD and OPEN (non-LSD) diffs.
There is also some confusion about the male/female thing. The axles on the LSD can be just popped out of the diff without driveing out that spring pin through the cup. They are held in with a c-clip on the inner part of the stub. If you take the axle out like this it looks male, if you take out the pin and leave the stub in the diff it looks female. Two axles in one!!
