I thought I would upload some photos today of the box I had in my demo vehicle when I had my custom car stereo business. These are just of the sub box, I have more of the doors and amps ect if your interested let me know. This box was made by me 100% including shooting it with the blue subi GL factory paint. Notice the subs mount from the back of the encloser for a cleaner look.

it did, I got rid of the car a while ago, it was for demo purposes not really for functionality. honestly it didn't even sound that great. it was just to showcase the glass work. I still have the box sitting in the garage actually...

It looks to me to be a free-air enclosure. Unless you use free-air subs it won't sound like a sealed or ported box would.
Wanna hear something funny?
he idiot down the street from me is always telling me he builds these sweet boxes because he works for a stereo shop. I dropped by his house the other night to see what kind of work he does and he points me to the garage. I'm expecting some sweet FG work but he shows me a box with (4) 12's from some cheesy home stereo speakes in..get this....PARTICLEBOARD!! HALF INCH PARTICLE BOARD!! LOL!!
He drops the bass and I could see this POS start flexing. I thought it was going to fall apart. He then saw my (6) 12's in the back of the Gregacy and I just watched his jaw drop. I offered to sell it to him for $200.00 but he wanted me to let them go for $150.00...LOL!! This guy is a comedian!!
AWD_addict wrote:Well it certainly does that. Did it not sound great due to the lack of space in the enclosure?
Well due to the shape and design of the box (and I use that term losely) I was unable to determin the exact cubit feet. There are techniques for doing so like measuring the volume with a fluid substance or packing peanuts or whatever but I didn't bother because it didn't really matter what it sounded like. The other thing is that the box did flex a bit. If you want it to sound good you have to build a box first and then mask it with the glass work.

Hear hear to that. When i glassed 2 boxes for 2x12" Atlas' into the corner of my buddies 98 contour svt i used 8 layers of 1.5oz mat for roughly a 1.25-1.5cf volume. That damn thing still flexed, even after i put some bracing in. Sounded alright but a fair amount of resonating at a few frequencys.
Some good looking glasswork. Is the enclosure just open on the back? any pictures?
Great work on the paint job too, i know how much work it takes to make it look anything close to that. Props
Thanks man, yes there is a link with all the build pics there at the bottom. it was a sealed enclosure. It was a lot of work but a labor of love. the paint took a while, tons of wet sanding. I should get some more pics up. all four doors had custom pods that each had a 8" midbass a 4 inch mid range and a tweeter. the total system was my sony c910, audio control 4way xover 4 tens, 4 eights, 4 a/d/s mids, 4 a/d/s tweeters, 1 soundstream ref500s on subs and a 1 soundstream ref500 on the eights. and a ref504 on the four pairs of seperates.

how do you like those a/d/s' i was looking getting some of those in the future once i upgrade from my ID chameleons. ive heard good things about them but never had an oppertunity to demo them.
haha good old AC 4xs made a world of difference going from the passive x-overs on the comps to that with the control i had off a Eclipse CD8062 16v balanced line. ran the comps off a HiFonics Zeus ZX6400 bi-amped and my 15" off just an old trusty rusty JBL BP1200.1. was good stuff though i havent mustered the energy to fiberglass the nessicary pieces to make 3" mounting depth speakers fit in my doors. Im also feeling a lot more tempted to sell off my equipment in hopes of a big turbo... what should i do.... hahah
I like Aa/d/s stuff. I also like soundstream. I also like US AMPS and older Boston Acoustics. Can't go wrong with PPI art series or some old fosgate. Even MTX used to be good back in the day.
