Fried my ECU

Post by sammydafish »

So I finished swapping in my new turbo last week. The car ran, but ran crappy. MIL was lit and it wouldn’t get out of it’s own way. Checking for codes showed almost every one in the book. At first I thought it could have been my MAF, as my first one took a nasty spill off the work bench and threw more than just MAF codes once the engine was running. This one took a spill too while I had everything apart, so I figured it might have been damaged. I swapped in a JECS MAF, grounded the blue wire… still no go, tons of codes… lots of wire checking and finally decided the ECU was bad. Luckily I had a spare. I swapped it in, the thing runs mint. I still have code 14 (which I didn’t have before) but injector #1 got damaged a bit during my engine fire, so it’s probably a bad connection.

During the swap I had to jump start it a few times, I guess that’s what killed it… maybe one of those times I left the key on when I hooked it up? Can’t think of anything else. That happened to me once before years ago, jumped a customers car, wasn’t paying attention and hooked the box up backwards. That cost me a thousand dollar ECU and an unhappy customer…. But, you live and you learn.
