HP challange for boosted NA's!

Post by douglas vincent »

OK, we are seeing a bunch of boosted NA now. So lets get some competition going on here.

While 1/4 mile and Dyno do change vehicle to vehicle, location to location, they are fairly good standards.

Only restriction is that the block HAS TO HAVE/BE stock high compression (compared to turbo low compression)!

What's sad, is that I made almost 100whp and 100lb-ft more than you at the wheels, and my best is a 15.01... @ 96mph. But then again, I was cutting fuel alllll the way down the track.

MAP 2.2E phaseII, turbo'd in '04 -
High compression - 250-255PSI in all cyls.
Unbelievable so I will not post #'s.

But my EJ20G, FMIC'd, 3" TBE, 18psi tapering to 16psi, alky injected LSS can't keep up with my Impreza @ 8.5 PSI.

@ 7psi I have run dead even with my buds '05 STi (intake & exhaust on his car) rolling off from 1st through 4th.

I also de-toothed 2nd gear like a month after turboing it, so I do not track it :(

if this thread is back from the dead you should post a new time Doug, I remember you being way faster than that.

My old setup, 90 Wagon with a Toyota CT-26 turbo on it ran a best of high 15's at like 88-89mph. I never did put a clutch in that car. Haven't run the new wagon at the drag strip though, but it'll be WAY faster :)

I think DV's wagon is low comp now so its out of the high comp turbo converted category, but he may still have the best BC Legacy 1/4mile time in the USA @ high 12's with the red wagon.

Might want to check it with another gauge then. That doesn't sound right at all. Especially the cheap gauges, they can be off in a bad way. I've seen the cheap gauges off by 100 psi after being dropped etc. Even new they can be sketchy.

Your Impreza's turbo is likley 3x the flow of the Legacy's turbo then. A GT35R (or even a GT30R) will do that easily at 8.5psi.

I did check my car with another gauge & got the same crazy compression.
I also checked my gauge on other cars, '02 WRX 31k - got readings of 160ish psi & on a rotary I got 70-80psi which is right-on for a rotary engine.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I always kill the cars fuel & spark, & hold the car @ WOT when cranking to get a comp. reading.

My turbo is definately not 3x the flow of the SS's, but I think my combination of less weight, high base compression, & alky injection gets the most out of the baby boost run on my wagon...

damn. I have a very nice (and expensive) compression gauge, and my 2.2 (n/a) reads 189 psi on average... and my friends 97/98 2.5 gt n/a runs 195 average (except his one cylider that has 5 psi compression)

I don't think 250 sounds even close to right... thats crazy...

I'm willing to bet he's not lying, or that the gauge is incorrect. I bet it is in fact a freak build with an accidental gasket selection.
But I also bet it runs like a raped freakin ape.
Kickin' it old-school.

Raped ape tuned for what octane? For example, I just tuned a Civic the other day w/2.0L bottom-end, B18 head, 4" side exit downpipe, etc and finally I had to have someone get behind the wheel because each pull the damn thing wanted to torque steer off the dyno. On 117 octane and 10:1 CR it made 582whp at which time it could no longer hold fuel pressure to sustain AFRs.

Compression is great, but pump gas won't cut it.
