Recommendations for high mileage EJ22T
Ok, so I'm buying a 91 Ej22T motor with 220K on it. It's running strong and has only been pushing 5psi. Now would you recommend a rebuild on the block? I plan to upgrade the turbo, IC, head gaskets and heads right away. Um, I want to run between 13-15psi safely.
Suggestions?

You have 200,000 kilometers on it Nico iirc...That is only 125,000 miles

^^ YUP i didnt want to rebuild it, forged pistons got to go in. so i am useing it till it blows up. then my first motor with half a million miles will get the forged pistons and slap the heads on that.

If you want to rebuild it, I'd just do seals, gaskets, and rings. I had 246k on mine that I ripped open and the crosshatching was all still present in the cylinders and the cams and main bearings looked nearly new. That wasn't a turbo, but 5psi isn't much stress either. The turbo motor I rebuilt looked brand new also, but that only had 83k anyway.

^^ the block look brand new even thow it had 200,000kms on it not one spec of a leeking nothing.
the motors will last very long if you just run 10psi and down anything above that KABOOM.

125 thousand miles on an ej22t isnt much. but 220 thousand miles is. in my opinion, i would crack it open, check everything out, and redo seals/gaskets and everything else that looks like it needs replacing. i plan on doing that with my ej22t shortblock that i have laying around. maybe even do the 2.4 stroker build that i've been wanting to do. ![Very Happy :-D](./images/smilies/003.gif)

If you are really wants the low end toque for your Legacy then go rebuild it, but if you don't care of the low end power, then go fine a EJ20G and you will be trouble free since most of the JDM engine comes with low miles.
For myself, I would like to keep and rebuild the old EJ22T....
I really miss the low end power.
But in my case, I get the EJ20G engine in cheap and good condition.
