FIRE!

Post by 555BCTurbo »

Ok...so this morning, at 5:00 I was awakened to the sound of the smoke detector in my bedroom going off...I kinda thought this was interesting, so I got up and turned on the light. I then see smoke hovering around in my room, and starting to come in from the hallway to my apartment! I opened my door, only to find solid black smoke in the hall, so I figured I wasn't going to be making it out that way. I get back into my bedroom and open the window, and fortunately the door to the apartment under me has a little roof over it, so I was able to get onto it, and then swing onto the stairway landing and onto the street...

Turns out a guy's apartment down the hall had an electrical fire, and a whole wall went up in flames, while he was sleeping...and his smoke detector didn't go off

He got out in time...and his apartment is toast...

My landlord is probably shitting a brick because the building is waaaaaaaaaaay not up to code, and he could be lookin' at some hefty fines!

Anyway...just thought I'd share one of my more interesting experiences I have had in a while :D

Wow... that's a nice way to wake up. Glad to hear nobody got hurt. Did they get the fire before it started attacking your belongings?

Or...

Any good fire sales as a result? :)

Sorry to hear that the detectors dont work everywhere in your building. But I am glad that no one got hurt and your stuff wasn't affected.

I had to throw my mom, and her dogs, out the window of her house, when her husband caught the garage on fire blocking the ONE exit of the house..

once i got her and the dogs out I had to bust out one of the windows out of the other end of the house so I could drag her birds (in their cages) out the window and onto the lawn...

then I had to move my car and her car from in front of the garage, because they were both getting fried by the heat of the fire

needless to say, I ended up having to visit the hospital because of severe smoke inhalation that could have killed me.

but the way I think of it, if I hadn't been there, my mom and her animals might not have made it out, since she is in poor health, and there was a burning down building between her and her husband

(btw.. best smoke alarm ever.. my stepfather screaming "CALL THE F$CKING FIRE DEPARTMENT I JUST CAUGHT THE GARAGE ON FIRE" as he is spraying a fire extinguisher at a blaze taller than him that was starting to engulf the wall of the garage)

also, as a side note, I called 911 before stuffing my mom out the window, and it was busy the first time. I had to hang up and call back. WTF!?

fires are bad mmmmkay

<edit> only one exit in the house after stepfather decided the previous summer "I don't want this really cool huge sliding glass door here... I want to board it up instead" and my brother and I said "isn't there some kind of building code preventing such nonsense?"

he didn't get in trouble for it so I guess not. maybe if someone had gotten hurt he would have?
