VF10 and Saab IC??

Post by Imprezive »

Has anyone managed to use a VF10 with a Saab 900 I/C?

I am trying to make the intercooler fit so that the intercooler inlet and outlet are on the left side, but I am having fitment issues with running the pipe coming from the turbo to intercooler inlet. It is hitting some vacuum line that I cannot remove, I havent tried a striagh 90* peice yet, but at $40 a pop I dont want to buy one and find out it wont work. My only option is flipping the intercooler so that the inlet is on the right and the pipe coming from the turbo goes under the intercooler. I'd like to put it so both intercooler holes are on the left, does anyone have any tips to make it fit? I am considering welding a last resort, although I am prepared to do so.

Here is a picture of one installed.

Most people like going the in-expensive route and hacking up a "cheap" radiator hose. In my experience alot of shops will let you sort through them to find the "right" one. Hope that helps, and cheaper than $40. :-D

I don't think the VF10 (or any other turbo meant for an EJ20) will fit with stock PCV plumbing, irrespective of what intercooler you're using.

Is it a PCV line that you're talking about, not a vacuum line?

Both legacy92ej22t and BAC5.2 have used Saab intercoolers with TD05H-16Gs, which should plumb the same as the VF10.

Hmm, I am not sure, I didn't really look at it, just a frustrated glance. It might be something that isn't on your engines since I have a G. I'll compare to my brother's. I pm'ed BAC5.2 and he has a pipe that I will try to buy off him.

Stipro is that your car? Do you by chance have a part # for that radiator hose?

(ahem... that was my car... I thought that setup looked mighty familiar)

You're talking about the line from the turbo compressor to the BOV? Sorry I don't have a part number; every time I find what I need in radiator hosing it's just me looking through what the local auto parts stores have in stock behind the counter. I picked a few that looked to have the right diameter and bends, and one of them worked.

Carquest, Napa, and Central Auto Parts are the best places to find usable selections of radiator hoses for IC applications. Usually from trucks.

Edit: Radiator hoses with the right bends and at least 1 correct diameter can be coupled together with inexpensive exhaust reducers and hose clamps. That was my trick. In fact that's exactly how I got the smaller diameter hose on the turbo to mate up to the BOV pipe...and I think I only used about a quarter of that radiator hose, cut the portion I needed.

Sorry, but I had to use the "Best" example out there, right?
