Those ads are great...best thing since the "synchronicity" ad in like 1999. (read: windshield wipers and basketball)

At least it didn't come out in the Dark Ages like the Mk4

When my friends and I went to the 06 car show, and they still had an Mk4 GTi on display, I dangled my arms, walked around on tip-toes, and started screeching... like a dinosaur  They cracked up...

And that VW gang symbol they throw with their hands in that commercial? They so ripped that off of me and my friends in middle school...

I like the 'sucking' one, but my favorite VW commercial is the old one of the guy racing to break up a wedding with One Million Miles playing.

They are ugly. But far from a POS, those things are quick for FWD cars.

SRT-4s are fast and also POS. I doubt VW has completely turned around their engineering and electrical.

A friend back in the day had a '75 Nova that was pretty fast, too. Had a built 350, but the door wouldn't stay shut or would sometimes lock you in, a rear shock was broken through the rusted trunk floor, and the radio slid around the bench seat. But he bought it for $350. Not sure if it was a good deal, but it was a blast. Still a POS. We pulled 135 according to the Formula 350 next to us, but thankfully he felt that was fast enough so today I can offer my dime-store (or Wal-Mart made in China crap to modernize the phrase) philosophy on LCO.

just dont turn on the heated seats in your VW "upmarket sports sedan."
that said I wouldnt mind a mk1 project based on a 1/2 cut from a 1.8t or TDi car. those are some pretty potent motors.

the new 2.0, replacing the 1.8, is supposedly pretty powerful.

And might not have the oil pick up problems that cause the 1.8T to self-destruct often under 40k

Those commercials are hiliarous.

On principal, I'm all for making fun of ricers in the all-show-no-go crowd. But on the other hand... I'm don't totally agree with the sentiment of the commericial. I don't exactly take sides with buying a car based on its looks, buying a piece of crap VW, OR buying new and keeping it stock instead of buying old and modding to make it your own.

I mean, I myself have a really really ugly car with a big scoop that "DEFINITELY SUCKS"

That's my favorite one, especially because it says "The Lame" on the car afterwards.

The new 2.0 is great in the A4, but a couple of friends test drove the MkV 2.0T with a DSG and said that the DSG sucked and the FWD ruined the car.

Not really.

SRT4's also, suck. If you get them without side-air-bags (so you can get the Viper seats), your hand hits the seat bolster on the 1-2 shift and it pops out of gear. If you get the regular seats, you can get it into 2nd gear, but then your arm slams into the arm rest and hits your funny bone.

CN: Buy an SRT-4 and learn to shift like like a left-handed monkey.
