First week at work down...

Monday: filled out paperwork, sign here, sign here, sign that NDA, sign this NDA, sign for 401k, sign for Life insurance (75k life insurance baby, no cost to me!), watch these videos, sign these papers saying you watched those videos.
yada, yada, yada. then I went out to raffertys with the boss and ate a good meal on his dime. we discussed the upcoming problems. great stuff.

Tuesday: worked on backup tapes, got part of the backup problem figured out. attempted to make a tape backup of 260 gigs of data on a 320 gig tape that failed overnight.

Wednesday: fixed backup system, successfully generated tapes wednesday night. worked on ideas for policy controls on the lab systems.

Thursday: more policy control research, found programs which cost $1000, $2000 and $3000 for site licenses on all computers. Left boss with some thoughts, and how much it would cost, and other cheap/free ideas.

Friday: Today I'm taking a 90 minute lunch, and getting off work early so I don't peg into overtime (can't say I mind it) working on a software application that a guy wrote who no longer works there, application is sorta.. busted.. and I've been doing that all morning. a transistor burned out of a video card on a lab machine and I had to go replace that, nothing else eventful.


I love my job.
So for those of you who didn't know, yeah, I moved out of my parents house last week, moved to nashville to start this new job (150 miles away). I miss my kitty, my apartment has some sort of flying gnat swarm and you see them every now and then, they came in and sprayed for fleas but fleas don't fly, these fuckers fly. Hopefully I can dish out the $300 pet fee when I get paid and get my kitty here, because it's lonely without her, very lonely.

Anyway, I'm having a great time, other than missing my kitty. good neighbors who aren't noisy at all hours of the night. there's only the 5AM bird that I wish I could get to and kill. it wakes up at 5AM on the nose and starts signing till 5:20AM, every day.

Gated community, gotta have a card to get in and out, it's funny as hell watching all the ragtag boys from around the block looking to drop in to see their homeboys at 9PM and the gate not letting them in.
