i got a 94 subaru legacy about a month and a half ago and i really like my car, my friend has a turbo 91 legacy and he sugested i get a subaru so i did and im not regretting it at all .
so how many n/a turbo'd legacy are out there?! post if you'd like to share what you did to get your car turbo'd safely. my friend has almost all the parts i need to turbo my car and hes doing it for free!!
Question: i was wondering if i have two head gaskets on bolth heads how much lower you think my compresion would go?
Anyone try this method?
i thought it would be a good ider to help with boost.
and i can get some turbo heads too, would it help?
ps. any one got a turbo crossmember and turbo down pipe they'd sell?
I've done it... there's a few threads on what I've done. Doug Vincent suoerchareged his too, there's a bunch of threads on his project.
You can't double up the head gaskets to lower compression. You probably won't want to lower compression anyway, at least not by a lot. You'd loose torque and fuel economy (though gain the ability to run more boost and possible get higher peak horsepower).
I did the modification using totaly custom parts, nothing off a turbo legacy and I kept the stock crossmember, just routed thr pipes around the right axle.

dont get turbo heads. valves are smaller and they have turbo oil lines but otherwise identical castings to yours. you DO have to add oil lines somehow though.
doubling up HG's was done on a 16vT rabbit that I have seen using 2 copper gaskets, but I would not do it on a suby. not only is it ghetto as hell, you are changing the distance between the cam sprockets maybe messing with the timing and increasing likelihood of blowing the HG. torquing the head might be different too. the quench volume increase would give you a good turbocharging CR though.
has anyone on here modded a NA crossmember to fit a turbo header, either by clearancing with a BFH or cutting and welding?
FYI, with a properly setup MLS gasket you could double up the spacers, this has been done before (on all kinds of engines) and works. You can not do it with a composite gasket. The better way to do it with an MLS gasket would be to simply get a gasket with the proper sized shim.

if you really want to do this, time to do some searching and get a service manual

Hey just think it out before you do it insted of repeating everything, check out my thread on the gallery 94 NA to turbo conversion. Just to list some stuff you need though, turbo water pump do it being diffrent were as the NA one hits the manifold. Custom oil feed and return, turbo ( I have a vf11 of a 05 forester) up and down pipes, manifold, corssmember ( pm me if you have questions on that) custom IC or not, bov, time and buch of stupid little bolts and stuff. But do the conversion I love it and have done nothing to change the compression.
I had a custom turbo install which utilized my NA Borla headers, stock crossmember, etc. I later added an MSD Dis-2 (which I`m selling now due to use of the Unichip) and SMC alcohol injection. I later added an MBC and played with all of it to get a very respectful result. Just make sure you have boost and egt gauges to keep an eye on things. Good luck-----Rod
