I got my GED shortly after I left highscool (month later, I believe) scored a 3080 and enrolled in tech school to pursue a career in IT.
Took a Microcomputer Specialist course for a year, completed that (half way to my associates) worked a shit job for awhile, moved to a bigger city, got a better job (I'm in IT now, doing direct (IE: non telephone) support and administration).
I'm on the same path a systems administrator would be, infact my tasks are mostly that of a systems administrator.
Here's the key, don't leave highschool without a goal, because if you do, you'll never make it in life. When I left and signed up for tech school, I knew what I wanted to do the rest of my life, and I'm doing it.
I love it, never regret a minute.
Edit: my scores:
LA, Reading = 600
LA, Writing = 560
Math = 580
Science = 720
SS = 620

I wish they didn't bill tech schools around here as the alternative for losers. I have little doubt I'd be a millionaire right now if I'd gone.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Congratulations! Your now more marketable than I am.
Diploma = went to high school
G.E.D. = did the work
I also did some Vocational college but the bastiges declared bankrupcy when I hit 95% completion so I have nothing to show for it except a stack of student loans.
