first win

Post by The Scooby »

was commin home tonight with my girlfriend, i had got my car running right last week and ive been trying to drive slower to get better MPG, anyways, leave the light with a civic coupe next to me on the left, the girl takes off and then slows and cuts me off so i hop into the left lane where she was.

we get to the next light that was red, i load up the torque convertor to about 1500, usually launch at about 2500, light goes green, i hit 3/4 throttle and just pull away, didn't want to go WOT to save gas and didn't need it to leave her behind.

next light she rolls her window down and was saying i bearly beat her because she got a crappy launch and that my car was slow anyways, i just told her to learn how to drive then and rolled up my window.

i just look at my girlfriend who says to just kick her ass. so i toss it in neutral and give her a rev, so does the girl. load up the TQ again but to 2500 now and wait for the green light.

light changed and i pulled about 3 car lengths by 40-45mph then let off, she kept on it and tryed to pass me so i floor it and just smile as i pass her again. she ended up taking a side street before the next light.

anyways, some people just need to know their car is slow, i know mine is far from fast but i just thought it was funny. and in no way to i condone street racing but it was a secuded area of town and i never went more then 15 over the limit.

I don't get any street action, people don't challenge me, even the ricers don't challenge me, and it surprises me.

I've had comments before, one when I was going into work one day (not this town) couple of guys in an SUV flagged me down and asked me what was under the hood "dude damn thing sounds like a V8"

had a bunch of autotech students want to know the same thing once when I was back in tech school - they said it sounded almost like a V8. SUV guys said it sounded like a hemi.

all occasions were me driving by people at low rpm in 2nd gear (parking lots and shit)

I guess my exhaust scares people off :(

At least I don't get street racers trying to fuck with me all the time :)

easy there with that camaro attitude stuff, i am a camaro guy also, i know some are like that but most arent, i love MOST cars, anything with some decent power or layout i have respect for.

there are a few guys in my home town that have the usual civic's and intregra's. but my buddy has a built CRV block with a Type-R head on it, gredy turbo kit with a custom built gredy t3/t4 on it pushing 22psi. he uses 75shot of juice to just spool the turbo but man is that thing insane on the highway, ive never gone from 60 to 160 in that short of amount of time.

oh me too, I respect all cars for what they are, and in fact *most* cars are cool to me. however the comment was more about the attitudes of the typical camaro driver, I think you know what I mean. but it sounds like you arent the typical.
that honda sounds insane, what car is it in? CRX I hope, that or an older hatch are the only hondas I could see myself in. honda builds some wicked motors.

I usually write nitrous off as cheating no matter what, but a built crv block! Thats just crazy! Do you know how much power he is putting to the wheels?

I still don't understand why nitrous is cheating? That's like saying race gas, or a "high-boost" map is cheating. But then again, I want nitrous...

Nitrous isnt cheating, I put it on the same level as race gas

Anything you cant drive around town and fill up at the gas station doesnt qualify as a street car in my mind.

Its not like you can pull up to somebody at a red light and be all 'I wanna race you, wait here while I go to the shop and get a nitrous refill, Im all out'

True. But if you have Nitrous in the car, is it still cheating?

I guess I think of racing more legally. Time's win. Nitrous helps you go faster. Faster is faster. Nitrous isn't cheating.

On the street, I can see the cheating side of it, but still, if it's available to you then why not?

Street cars are over-rated.

So what if a vehicle was built to run lpg in a performance way? That's not available at every gas station, but has more energy than gas, about the same as race gas actually. Just becuase somebody has something "different" somebody else has to have a problem with it. Most people that think nitrous is cheating also think forced induction is cheating. Whatever makes you go fast is alright in my book.

I dont think of it as cheating, my first three words were 'Nitrous isnt cheating'

I just dont think it's that useful. On the drag strip, sure, but cruising around town, or longer races... not so much.

less energy more octane. 105-110 depending on location.
also can have a cooling effect on the intake charge depending on application. propane does very well with boost. I'm researching right now to see if I want to build one.

My best kill was a Early 60's Chevy II. The car was gorgeous, had lots of $$ in it, but I just pulled up at a light with 2 of my buddies, and we were just minding our own business, and the dude starts talkin trash. I told him I didn't want to race, and he agreed...well...

He full on launches when the light changes, and i was already rolling in 1st gear, and I said "oh, I will have no part of being beat by this asshole" and I pulled him HARD through 1st and 2nd...on 10psi with my VF11 inbred turbo and 3 people in the car :o

:( I miss my silver wagon. My white one is slow as fuck! As soon as I have some free time I'll be doing the motor swap from the silver into the white with the addition of a front mount ;)

A guy I work with just got a '99 BMW 528 and mounted a huge nitrous tank in the trunk to make up for not having the 4.0.
