I was not able to get online at all this past weekend. Not sure whats going on. All my hardware looks to be ok. I have a linksys cable modem and 4port router. All the lights are ok and my pc says that there is a connection. I dont know too much about this stuff and was not able to get online to get help! lol I'm at work today so I can try some stuff later when I get home. Anyone know what I should look for?
Any help would be great

Last time this happened to me, (I have very similar equipment), the cable company had inadvertantly disconnected our service.
I know it sounds like a longshot, but I'd give them a call and make sure you still have physical service, too.

First off, try unplugging and replugging the power to the router, and if that doesn't work, the cable modem.
If you're still not getting a connection, try opening Internet Explorer and typing this in the address bar:
http://192.168.1.1
If you get a box that asks for your username and password, I believe that if you haven't changed the settings, username should be left blank and password is admin.
Go into the setup and on one of the status pages, it will say whether you're getting a connection through your modem. If you aren't, your service could be down, or the modem could have gone bad (we've gone through four or five modems since we got cable internet in 1999).
If you just get the message "The page cannot be displayed," there's something wrong with the connection between your PC and the router. Try releasing and renewing your IP, and check that you are receiving packets.

Hey,
Art, yes I was going to call just to check.
thefultonhow (sorry, dont know your name) , I did try the release and renew of the ip addy and it did not help. It gave me the same IP, not sure if its supposed to change or not. I did not check the router for the connection like you say but I'll try that. I'm leaning towards the modem being bad because I just had to replace the router recently and I bought that after the modem. Thanks guys, If anyone else has anything to ad please feel free. I'll be here at work for a few more hours before I go home to attempt a repair

Power cycle your modem and router. Pull their plugs for a minute and then plug the modem in, then plug the router in. Then turn on your PC to check connection. If this doesn't fix it...time to b%*ch at the cable company.

finally!
turns out that my parents had been a little late on paying that bill so they suspended it temporarily. so after 1 hour on the phone I was able to get them to turn it back on. Even though the check was already in the mail they said they would have to wait for the check to clear and it could be up to 7 business days before they would turn it back on. I opted to just pay the minumum on my credit card and have it on right away. By right away that means 4 hours later and it still was not working so i had to call tech support and do some stuff to get it going. What a PITA! I do have a question though. The guy with tech support told me that I need to have the IP automatically detected due to them changing the IP's every day. I swear I had my ip set to a deticated router ip before but now it all works. does anyone know how that shit works? I thought you set the router to auto detect IP and them the router and the PC use a common IP that you set up in the router.

The router does something called NAT (Network Address Translation) which basically means that it has a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol -- a way of assigning IPs automatically) server in the router that assigns IPs to all network devices on your internal network. On the other side, it uses DHCP to pull an IP from your cable company (or at least it should). It then routes all traffic coming in to the appropriate computer, and all traffic going out from the appropriate computer to the Internet. The IP address on the outside (called the WAN IP) can change and the IPs on the inside (the LAN IPs) can change independently of each other.
