Lightweight flywheel?
OK, it's been almost a year since I put together my SS with all my goodies, and I've only recently started to try launching from a stop. If I drop the clutch at (as high as) 4500 rpm, it'll break the tires loose for maybe 2-3 feet, then just bog down and slowly take off. I've tried feathering the clutch more with no better results. I know LW flywheels are bad for drag-style luanches becuase they lack the rotational forces, but should it really be this bad? I've got a Spec 11something pound flywheel/pressure plate combo.

That's what LW flywheels do.
No real way to get them to hook up unless you go to 5500 or so. Then you just spin em and go.... kind of.
In RWD, I don't have as much a problem hooking up, but it'll bog if I don't try and get a good launch.

When you break the tires loose, your engine doesn't have near the load it does when it finally hooks up. You might be out of the powerband when the tires catch, which is causing the sluggish launch. Like BAC5.2 said, more rpms should help. Alternately, you might try to find that spot before they spin, where you should get a nice, brisk launch in the powerband.

Yeah, maybe I'll play around with it a little more, although I don't want to grenade my tranny. I don't feel comfortable going above 4500 rpm. I probably shouldn't even take it that high, it's not like I need to launch.

With a lightweight flywheel, you will almost always bog off the line.
It happens.
With my car, I'd spin them, then bog, then build boost, and then go. Car was almost faster rolling from the line than it was launching it.
With RWD, I can just kinda spin-em and go. But a heavy flywheel would do a LOT to help hook up. RWD or AWD.

Oh well. I didn't build it to drag race, I just wanted a fun toy to play around with, and it far surpassed my goals. So many people are surprised at how "crazy fast" it is. I can deal with the fact it's not a "race car".
Actually, the whole reason I started this thread was becuase I lined up against a slightly modded WRX, and I lost (twice) due to failure to launch. My tranny doesn't like to shift, either, so I shifted slower.
Everone seems to agree my car is still quicker, even though I lost.
I could really care less, I was just curious. I haven't gone out to line up against somebody like that in like six years. I kinda miss being so irresponsible!
