How does a 4EAT talks to the engine

I am wonder what physical inputs controls when engines changes?

I have log my 2000 subaru and there are 2outputs from the TCU and 1 output from the ECU to the TCU.

But in general shifting operations, these signals do not show anything conclusive.

I can see the timing pull, but thats basically it.

I am thinking of going w/ a Hydra ECU, but I need to understand what the ecu sees to cause the shift.

Can anyone w/ technical knowledge explain this here to me?

The ECU sends three signals to the TCU. Engine speed, Intake Manifold Pressure, and Torque control. The TCU sends two signals to the ECU, Torque control 1, and Torque control 2. I forget what the difference is. If you don't have any of these connected you will get a code from the TCU. Probably, but don't quote me, 23 from the rpms, 22 from the pressure, and 25 from any of the torque control. The Tranny will go into failsafe mode for each of the codes thrown, which means you wont get torque converter lock-up with 23, and you'll have rougher shifts with 22, or 25. Every other element of the tranny will still operate properly though. I'm sure you can wire up the rpms, and pressure, but not too sure about the torque control.

Don't you have an EJ204, or EJ254 or something? Can you take some pics of your engine from all kinds of angles?

haahhaha.

I have the EJ204

I re-read the TCU stuff and 2 to the ecu and 1 from the ecu to tcu.

To be more specific,

Torque Control signal 1 &2
Torque Permission signal.

I believe that the logging might not have catch every signal one, although I find that hard to believe.

EJ204 is sex, pure unadulterated sex. More pics of the sensors would be so sweet. Let me know if you ever decide to sell that engine. Hell, I'd trade you a complete EJ22T for it. I'm 100% serious by the way. How does the manifold change work? Any pics of the exhaust manifold? Wow it still has the charcol canister in the engine bay.

Back to the topic, there are definately three signals from the ECU, you can follow it in the wiring diagram. Without RPM the torque converter will not lock up, and I'm sure you've noticed your torque converter locking and unlocking. What are you using to log the inputs and signals? Your transmission has sport shift and VTD right?

lol.

I wish I had the Ej254. Was thinking of dropping in the STI 2.5l for it, but cost is the problem right now.

The exhaust header is 2-1 per side.

The intake manifold change over around 5300rpm. I don't notice anything, every dyno wise.

I am using EcuExplorer and Delta Dash.

I know what I need for the tcu to work, problem is, what lines to use and how there work to tell the ecu to drop timing and maybe fuel. The thing is, why I need 2 outputs when one is good.

Actually, I do not know when the torque converter is lock up.

Its a 4EAT w/ clutch plated to enable the rear.

Your EJ22T should be good :)

5300 rpms wow, what's the redline? Do you have any dyno charts?

You know you want this EJ22T, straight up trade, Full longblock with all the sensors, turbo, ECU, etc, for the same from you :D. You'd be like the only one in the caribbean with a Turbo 2.2! Plus it's proven to make tons of power.

We have 2.2 here, even in rally :)

I'm Happy.

4EAT - 6800rpm
Manual shift - 7100 rpm
