I have been prying with my crowbar for hours now...and not a mm of movement..It feels like its locked in place by the spring pin....BUT THERE IS NO SPRING PIN! Is there a s[pecial tool I can purchase to help me out?...any ideas?...ugg back out to see if I stummble onto a Solution...thanks guys

not having the pin in there is goind to be nearly imposs to break it loose. The pin is there to keep the nut from turning onto the axle tighter, from driving, braking. So, if the pin is missing (the previous mechanic was a dumbass for not putting it in) you might be really screwed. You need 1/2 inch breaker bar, and impact sockets probably from Snap-on or MAC, they are the strongest, and guaranteed. I bet you will break a few breaker bars though.

Good luck. let us know how you get it.

Oh, wait...you mean the pin at the transmission? oh, well hmm, you might have to pull the whole axle stub out of the tranny to get that one. that will mean new seals for the stub housing.......wow

that was going to be my next question.

i was wondering if there was some other type of pin in there that you just couldnt see.

i used a punch that was just a hair smaller than the whole for the pin to punch it out. then i used a punch that was a hair smaller than the inside of the pin w/the pin slid over it to guide the new one into place.
