Is this goal realistic?

Post by Judge Smails »

hi, i have a 92 legacy turbo 5 spd with 144K miles, runs good, all stock, anyways i am looking to achieve these goals with it:

0-60 time of 5.9 secs
so probably 250 bhp?
reliable enough for daily driver

in order to achieve this i need a solid plan and my budget is $3k. can this be done? thanks for your time!

Standalone, tuning, maybe an intercooler of sorts. That'll meet all of your goals.

But reliability depends on the standalone you choose. Piggy-backs tend to be the most reliable, because you don't have to worry about cold-start tuning and such. The stock ECU will control AC and all that nonsense too.

not difficult at all. You could get a 16G turbo and intercooler and be set. Pick up some bigger injectors and a safc II for safety.

Stock WRX exhaust will not help you much. A 3" turbo back exhaust really helps relieve pressure off the turbo and makes it more efficient. A WRX aftermarket exhaust can be easily fitted with some custom brackets that any competent muffler shop can fab up. At the very least you need a different downpipe since the OEM design is great for emissions but horrible for power making.

Best clutch is a stock Exedy clutch. Upgrade to a WRX clutch and flywheel. The flywheel can be stock WRX or the Exedy lightweight flywheel. If you really want an upgraded pressure plate go with the Exedy stage 1 clutch assembly. Notice any patterns in what clutch/flywheel products you should use? (Daikin is also Exedy.)

Don't forget about wheels, if you want to make a bunch of power, you want a wheel that can keep it on the tarmac.

With more power comes a need for upgraded brakes, imo.
