Yeah, it will fit, but you'll need some extra WRX parts, like the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, among others.

To the best of my knowledge, all Impreza non-STI models have the same final drive gearing.

With the 1:1 gear reduction!

The WRX has a 3.90 front diff, a 1.1:1 reduction in the center diff housing, and a 3.545 rear diff. You can't use a WRX tranny with a 3.90 rear diff, or you'll blow the diff.
The STI has a 3.90 rear, but the WRX, and I think the Impreza has a 3.545 rear.

what about the speed sensor. I think the 05' is electric and the 90' s not. what can i do with it?

Just stick your existing cable in the new tranny. It'll work fine.

you might try and just use the entire wrx shifter setup and just the body bushing from the legacy.
if i was you, I would make entirely solid shift linkage bushings, and the large round bushing get a poly one from energy suspension. take the bushings apart, go to a plastic shop, and see what round stock they have.
or try and use rod ends through the whole shift linkage, if I was to redo mine i would do that or the hard plastic.

You'd need the whole shifter assembly, including the assembly-shifter "knuckle"
