Exhaust suggestion '02 or '05 STi?

Post by Subaru for Life »

Hi all, hope everyone is having a nice Memorial Day. I'm planning to replace the exhaust system on my '93 Legacy N/A FWD. The exhaust manifold and cats are still okay, I'm just going to replace the segments after the cats (Is that what everyone refers to as, "Catback System")?

I've come across an '02 WRX catback with twin tip muffler, it's got 2.25inch pipes on it. And '05 STi catback with single tip muffler. I do not know the ID of the pipe.

Does anyone know which one I should get? Are they the same except the mufflers? And since mine is not a turbo motor, could I still use it on my Legacy?

Thanks in advance,
Pye

The STi-spec muffler is just a tad throatier than the WRX version . . . even just making this swap on a WRX provides a little more aggressive note. If you're not going to pay much more for the STi axle-back, I'd go that route. 8)

i have the full turboback 05 STi exhaust on my car, and I love the sound of it, throaty, but not too throaty/ricey.

I'm glad to hear that you turbo heads like the '05 STi exhaust better :D But I wonder how it would sound on a N/A motor. It's definitely got to be louder than turbo.

I don't know, I might just pick up both and switch the axle backs and see.

Thanks guys.

since its just the axleback, they'll probably both sound similar, and those are pretty easy to swap out, if I were you, I'd just go with the 05 simply because its newer and presumably lower mileage.
