Hey All
Ever since I've owned my baby, she has given off a burning smell from the engine (which I only notice when I get out of the car).
It's only really evident when I drive hard, possibley only when I make good use of the turbo.
Is this something I should worry about? Nothing seems to be wrong with the car, engine or boosting functions of the car.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Our cars can leak oil from a million places. Trouble areas are:Faithbleed wrote:Hey All

Front and rear cam seals, as well as the front crankshaft seal (also the oil pump seal)
Rear crankshaft seal (behind flywheel)
Valve cover gaskets
oil pan gasket.
These are all wear items and are designed to be replaced at their designated service intervals - so it's not abnormal to have a leak if you havn't replaced them, first step is to track down which one is leaking and that can be a task in itself that it a little too lengthy to explain all in one post.

As I mentioned in another post....these engines are oil piggys......even on a pretty new engine, I'm getting a little oil seaping through some seals. I'm pretty sure a lot of mine comes from the PCV system.

In addition to all the wonderful oil leaks we can have: if you do have them at some point and it leaks down to the y-pipe in the exhaust, it gets trapped in that bloody heat shield, so extensive cleaning is needed to get it all off (or just get an exhaust that has no heat shield)
Not the best design to have something that holds oil and gets really hot so it can get baked on, which is why the smell comes back everytime you drive. I replaced all my seals when i rebuilt my EJ22 about 6 months ago and it's dry as a bone and still stinks! Time to get one of those borla manifolds i guess.
