"Bump" come on guys any thoughts
i can feel it too... Could it have something to do with the steering parts? Some kind of joint moving? under load? It tends to happen more often and harder with more weight in the car.

CV Joint? Sounds odd, but maybe the "crack" you're describing is from a worn out CV joint. That's usually a clunk, but it usually only happens when turning...

Argh... I have this too. I don't think it's a CV joint -- all of mine are in good shape from what I can see. Did a search and I found one of two things it could be -- wheel bearings or strut tops.

installed, improperly, didn't seat properly, could be a bunch of different things.thefultonhow wrote:Thing is, the things just got put on in January (10,000 miles ago)...
try this, get out to that side of the car and compress that strut by putting all your weight on the hood or fender or whatever
when I compress my driver side strut it pops once, it doesn't sound horrible, and it's not leaking, It's just worn out and needs replacement.

Mine happens mostly when I'm going around turns, but a couple of times it's happened when I was backing into a parking spot (regular, not parallel). At this point though, either it's getting really bad or I'm getting really paranoid, because half the time I go over a bump it happens.subyluvr2212 wrote:'Crack', or 'clunk'?
All of a sudden, I have a clunk now, it happens mostly when I'm braking, but it's happened once when I was pulling out of a parallel parking space and had the steering close to full-lock.
I'm not going to go into how irritated I am about it
And yes, for me it's a clunk.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like what mine's doing.
Lemme replace my rack and get back to you. I'm gonna do a BD/BG GT rack (supposed to have quicker gear ratio for more responsive steering), and I've got Whiteline rack bushings on order, and that BETTER take care of the clunk.
I seriously don't know what else it could be, as I have (in the front anyway, where the clunk is coming from)
- New struts
- New springs
- New strut mounts
- New top hats
- New rubber seats
... so basically, the ENTIRE strut assembly is new
- New control arms (with corresponding new bushings)
- New front axles
The only other thing I can think of would be swaybar mounts/bushings, or I maybe didn't tighten something enough, and it's worked loose over the last 2k miles.

hmmm. I know that when i have more weight in the car is gets louder. I went over a speed bump once and it "cracked" but i have over 500lb in the front seats. (im 250 and so was my buddy). But over all its doing this when stopping. Or at least this is when i hear it... I was thinking it could be a moving brake pad. being that one side does it more then the other. I know that my rotors in the front are warped. But if this was the case it should only really happen when go into revers stop "crack" drive forword and stop "crack" but Im driving forword "crack" driving forword "crack" (but not that often only once in about every 7 min drive) Im going to go out next time and really give it to the car and see if i can find out how to make the sound. Could be the strut the car sat for like the last 6 years...

I have more information on my clunking. It doesn't happen at highway speeds -- only below about 40-50 mph. When I'm going really slow it's started clunking very frequently.
I also noticed today that when I'm coming to a stop and starting up at low speeds a I get a low-pitched uneven squeaking like rubber rubbing against itself. It doesn't happen when braking at normal speeds -- just when coming down from 20 mph or so. It stops when I accelerate quickly or come to a complete stop. I opened my window to see if I could hear it but it seems to be coming from inside the car.
Any ideas on that problem? Do you think it's related?

Well I figured out what the other sound was. It was my VSS. Because it stopped working and now my speedometer doesn't work.
