Hi all, new to the board and relatively new to Subies. I have driven a '90 AWD wagon w/ EJ22 for about a year, 245K mi on odo. Won't idle, overheats (due to internal coolant loss), and lacks oomph, leading me to conclude the old girl needs a motor swap. I'd appreciate any help the group can give on the following:
* Are there EJ22 variations I need to look out for, or will any EJ22 bolt right in?
* Are there variations in head-to-exhaust flange setups? Parts houses show several different gasket designs for this make, and I suspect my pass-side flange (or is it considered the manifold?) may be cracked or otherwise defective. I'd really like some advice on what variations I might need to keep in mind while I search for a motor, in case I have to replace other associated parts.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated!

well actualy any EJ series motor will bolt right in, but unless your wanting to go through the hassle, just find another N/A EJ22, it isnt a very easy mistake but just make sure you dont get the turbo motor (EJ22T) unless your actualy planning on putting the turbo motor in, but i asume your intentions are for just a replacment.
i think all N/A Legacy EJ22 90-94 (or was it 96?) are pretty much the exact same
i dont know much about telling people whats wrong with their cars but maybe you need some new head gaskets
a similar thing happened to mine, i could not run it for 30 minutes then it would overheat, and it never realy had power, i found that the right side head gasket was leaking, i cant remeber if the water was leaking into the cylinder or onto the manifold, ive had both happen and cant remeber which happened to this car, but either way it wasnt holding compression so i geuss thats part of the power loss (and if there was water inside)
