lifter problem
ok so me and my friend dustin have been swaping the motor out of my 91 legacy ss because i bought it with a ej22t that had a spun rod bearing so we replaced it with an ej20g, we used the 22t heads and manafold. we got it back togather and started it up and there is a slite knocking comming from the lifters and we dont know why can you help us out? i would do the reasurch but i dont have the time with finals and work:(
Did you bleed the lifters?
Josh

Is this knocking constant, or does it increase when when you up the RPMs proportionately? I am trying to find out what could be a cause to a similar situation I am having...
redesigning my '93 Leg Wag in my head...and then looking at my bank account...and crying.

after you do a head swap or motor swap in general. you will always have a knock. if it is a lifter knock it could take up to 20 miles for it to go away. it took mine close to 15 miles to go away. drive it around and it should eventually go away.

Lifters tick, rods knock, and pistons slap. If it's definitely from the heads, it's most likely the lifters. If running the car for a bit doesn't remedy it, post back and I will talk you through bleeding them. Thankfully on the Ej22T heads, you can remove the rockers and HLA's and bleed them without removing the timing belt...
