Anyone tried this?

Post by Threshld1 »

So i was taking a look at some pictures/measurments i took a while back concerning installing a meghan racing dp to an 05 sti mid and turbo back. I determined i would need a 3.5" extension pipe to make this work.

As is i have the stock system to the sti turboback. It sits about 2.5" too far forward on the stock midpipe to use the stock hangers, even with the long kartboy hangers. It is currently held up by wire untill i get materials to make the dp work.

So now that i look at my pictures i see that the stock midpipe is slightly shorter than the meghan, nearly 3"
OEM VS STI mid + meghan dp

so i was wondering has anyone used the stock midpipe with the sti turboback and a longer dp? The way i see it the extra length on the dp would move the turboback back far enough to use the rear hangers. Though i would loose use of the rear mid hanger. Though i would finally have this damn DP in :-D
Thoughts?

What I call a catpipe is what you call the midpipe. And what I call the midpipe is the pipe that has the last cat in it.

In other words, it will fit physically all bolt up, hangers will work, you just need to make sure the flanges will seal.

where the midpipe is only on the wrx's correct? it would go down, mid, cat, muffler whereas our leggys are down, cat, muffler. And the only problem may be with the orientation and possibly angle of the flanges where i could cut the cat pipe flanges and align them properly and weld them? Thanks

You got it. One thing I just remembered, my axleback has adjustable hangers (kinda) so all three of your hangers might not line up.

yeah just got it all test fitted and am getting bitter at how difficult these kartboy hangers are to put on. Im gonna have to cut off the 3rd hanger on the muffler thats by the diff as its hitting the sway bar. Other than that it fits perfectly, cant wait to hear it. Thanks

Got her running last night. Everything fits including the O2 sensor with a CEL mech fix no rubbing anywhere. Ill get some pictures up soon.
Now that this thing can brethe its running a whole lot quicker. Any let me tell you, if anyone says they took our their cat with a broom stick they are lying to you
Love the sound, nice and low, quiet at idle and no resonations at any speed so far. I didnt think the turbo could get that loud
