rebuilding an EJ22

Post by Paul V »

I am in the process of rebuilding an EJ22 N/A engine , and i was wondering what are the two halves of the block sealed together with and is this the same stuff for the oil sump seal, oil pump seal and the other parts on the block that need sealing?

The reason I ask is i don't want to have to seal it twice by using the wrong sealant the first time. I had a look for some links regarding sealant for an EJ22 without success.

thanks :D

Yes, use Permatex UltraGrey for All the metal to metal that calls for Sealant.

do the case halves need to come apart? because unless you have a spun bearing, or you are up grading for future power increase. there really is not much of a point. obviously there are other reasons but those a the big ones.

as far as the stuff that you would use to seal it yes its the same stuff that you would use for the oil pump, and other oil passages. there are many different kinds. But i preffer to use "the right stuff" thats the name of it. its made by permatex and works awesome.

and you only need to use it where there is oil that needs to be sealed.

-case halves
-valve covers
-oil pump
-oil pan

those are the big ones to worry about

the reason for the rebuild is bent a conrod (long story) and big end bearing noise.

someone told me to use threebond 1207 B and subaru want something stupidly overpriced for a tube here in Aus.

any ideas of price , part number, and where do you get hold of the permatex?

just for future reference, under your profile you should put a location it helps people. with prices and parts availablity.

anywho. any auto parts store should have permatex products. just go in and ask them what they recommend. also ask them if they have permatex
