I am planning on getting an '06 wrx tmic instead of going with a cheaper older style intercooler. Has anyone experimented with this newer style intercooler?

I've got one ready to go gathering dust in my basement while I source a new turbo.
Paid $110 for it on Nabisco with thingee that attaches to the hood and directs air onto the intercooler included - what's that called? (am in need of coffee)...these are the same ICs as on the Forester XT...
I do think that someone already installed on of these and posted photo. Try the search function. I KNOW I've seen one installed on this board. (they are a darn near perfect fit!!!)
Cheers,

I installed a Forester XT intercooler (same as new WRX one) in a friend's SS rallycar...it fits well and works well, you will just have to get a little bit crafty with the inlet piping.

TD05 with 90 degree inlet from Deadbolt is the shizzel. But evidently you'll ultimately need upgraded heads to get the full benefits...

well, discouragement on my install attempt.
The stock 06 Y pipe and the connectors on the tmic for the Y pipe hit the mount for the ignitor, and definitely caused the intercooler placement not working. Also, my car is the 5mt, and the resevoir is causing the tmic to sit too hi.
I just removed the passenger side tmic inlet neck, and will plan on blocking off this inlet. The other inlet on the driver side looks like a straight shot, for the VF11 compressor outlet, which is the factory turbo for our t-legs.
I think, with the one inlet removed and blocked, it will allow the intercooler to clear things better at the rear. I tried another test fit without the passenger inlet, and it is getting closer to fitting.... I can almost leave the coolant tank in the factory location, but it is real close, so I will move it several inches towards the shock tower.
I think there may be an issue with the back driver side of the intercooler not clearing the hood. It seems that the tmic is still going to sit too high for the hood, on the back driver side.
I have no problem clearing the firewall, but something back there is causing it to sit too high, possibly the combo of the clutch resvoir and the angle of me trying to go around the coolant tank.
Next step is to move that coolant tank, and check again for hood clearance.
It is definitely not as easy as some say.
I did move the AC line to under the dogbone, and initially had relocated the igniter. Now, I found that i moved the ignitor back to factory spot, but only used the back mount bolt, and have it slightly rotated, to clear the single tmic inlet on the driver side.
Not sure when i will get a chance to continue on further. I had to reinstall my oem tubing and give up due to time, or lack of having time off. Also, i installed the WRX turbo heat shield after removing the chimney. Actually, the was the first thing i did before the install attempt.

You can cut the clutch Master Cylinder down a little bit, I've done it before and so has my brother. No big deal.
And relocating the Reservior is easy enough to. I plan on making custom brackets for the Resevior and maybe for the Ignitor to.
I would try to keep both inlet tubes if you can. I mean, my brother fit both sides on his car and he is using an '02 wrx intercooler

Relocating/modifying the ignitor bracket is very doable. I had to do this on my AWIC install.
The clutch resevoir, pm blackbart. I believe he may still have some offset clutch MC resevoirs.
