I have to pull the front end apart again to fix yet another oil leak. I just pulled the engine to fix the oil seperator leaking 3 months ago. I put a new timing belt and pullies in it, and should have changed the cam oil seals and o rings while I was back there.
Anyway, looking at the subaru parts break down it shows the camshaft support needs to be removed to change the O ring back there. Will the camshaft remain in place if I remove the support? Is the rear simular to the front?
I am also going to do the oil pump o ring and front main, because I don't want to be back there again any time soon.
thanks

Another MN guy here... NICE!
I have plenty of pics of the front main, oil pump seal, and rear cam support o ring replacements.
Removing the rear support has no affect on the cam. Ive pulled the thing off twice now. Best way i would suggest is removing the turbo and uppipe, otherwise its just way too hard to get at those bolts (2x12mm and 2x10mm) or clean off the mateing surface. Now the reason i pulled mine off twice is i didnt replace the 2 small orange turbo oil/coolant feed o rings when i did the cam support oil seal. And it leaked worse then before i changed it.
So save yourself some trouble and do all 3.
Best method i found for doing front main is after you replace the high pressure o ring and RTV the thing up, reinstall the pump. Line up the new front main seal the best you can. Use the old seal front to front with the new seal, slide the crank sprocket on and make sure the new seal is aligned properly. Then slide the crank pulley on the shaft and start threading the crank bolt in untill the new seal is fully seated (be sure to align your keyway beforehand). Ive read a PCV tube or large deepwell socket does the trick aswell though i didnt have either on hand when i did mine.

What up Minnesota!
PB blaster!! Good stuff.
Good advice on the front main seal, sounds like a winner.
Thanks for the pics. I may hold off on doing the rear cam seal, because it isn't leaking yet, if it involves taking off the turbo. I will do that next summer. Now the front cam seal on the driver's side is another story. Smoke rolling out of the hood and whatnot. It is getting fixxed next week.
I was looking through your winter pictures of your car. Ahhhh I love the snow, but I don't like when my car is being eat'n away by salt.

Until only about a month ago, I was a dipsh*t who thought the left and right heads were different, and that the cam carrier on the left side was part of the head. Now I know better.
The seal for the cam carrier on the left side is the same seal as the one that's capped off on the right side.
I'll get a part number with price tomorrow.
