Help on decision V2 slanty or Saab

Post by rad rex »

As always, I'll start by saying that I looked at about every thread about both of these intercoolers. I need help from you gurus as to which intercooler to go with for :
1.ease of installation
2.performance (12 lbs max)

I already plan on moving the coolant tank and the ignitor in either case, and the AC lines are going anyway.

So which is better?

Thanks to the godlike subie gurus out there in advance, I figure a little sucking up will go a long way

albeit the v2 slant intercooler. The Saab is a marginal upgrade, its not really worth your time if you have the option of steping up to a wrx intercooler. I think I might have read somewhere that the slanted intercooler fits without much trouble. Plus the wrx IC is probably a lot more efficient.

I asked the same questions, searched the threads, and eventually decided upon the slant WRX i/c. It seems to be the best way to go if you are not willing to do the more extensive mods to fit a newer WRX i/c, or the extra complexity and weight of the AWIC. Of course it's more difficult to find. I spent a few months scouring ebay before I was able to acquire one from a 1995 WRX. I still have not installed it, unfortunately.

Anyone who spends some time in a high speed metal tube should seriously look into an fmic install 8)

i have a verII STi slant mount, they came on the EJ20's up to 280hp, so they cant be that bad, also i didn't have to relocate the coolant tank, just the ignitor, and shove everything under the dog bone.

had it on in about 1 hour and that includes the 15minute run to the parts store for the charge tube.

I'd get a front mount, but I doubt I could get the leggy up to 450KTS, so its not worth it to me;)

Thanks for the info
