2.2L N/A

Post by asc_up »

ok so before coming onto this sight i thought i knew a descent amount about cars until i started reading posts and then i realized just how much of a retard i am. lol.

so anyways....i figure this might help for people looking to mod a 2.2L N/A.

what sorts of mods can i do to my 2.2L n/a engine to get it up to about 150 or 160 whp? (that seems like a reasonable hp to me...tell me if it's not).

thanks for the info but i've already read those before lol.

basically if people could just give me a parts list of things that they would do to their car, that would be great.

Do you mean 150whp without a turbo or supercharger? That would be an interesting build...

It's quite a bit more, actually. The EJ22 is rated at 130hp at the crank in stock form. I'm assuming for the moment you have AWD, which I have read elsewhere on the site can equal 30-40% drivetrain loss. That gives you between 90 and 100 whp in stock form, when the car was new, and chances are it's lost a bit since then. So you're asking for 50-70 extra horses from bolt-ons, and if you haven't noticed the aftermarket for the N/A engine is lacking a bit.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but it will be difficult and expensive.

For 150chp Id say exhaust, clean up the intake, and adjustable cam/crank gears so you can push the timing up a little

I dont think they make those for our cars tho

Reground cams and ported heads would also make a significant improvement

Also, tighten up the valvetrain and get an MSD so you can up redline 1K

how does the MSD up my redline 1K? would i need to remove my rev limiter so i could get it up that high? or would it just help me accelerate more quickly?

would the EJ25 RS heads work with the N/A block?
that and Cobb equal length headers, you could throw on a Mr.Josh lightwieght pulley

what is the ordering process for getting your cams reground by Delta, anyone know? i know a few of you do, im curious, i dont know much about cams and regrinding, but if i want a little bit more top end power for the street what would i tell them?

yeah i wonder if the ej25 will fit cause i could throw on the equal lenght headers which would be nice.

i already have a perrin lightweight pulley....does it differ much from a mr. josh's?

I called them and got a free shirt with my order, but that was probably a year ago, maybe more. You package the cams up, write what stage you want them reground and mail them in. They are actually very quick. I had mine back in under a week. I can't remember but I think they called me up as soon as they were done regrinding them and I paid them then.

depends on how agressive the cam is
i would think you could get 20hp without lossing drivability, maybe more torque than hp, it all depends on what setup you get, the more agressive cams will get you more power but youll lose drivability because it will idle very rough and a realy agressive cam might not idle at all, and youll suck gas down like a mofo,
