can anyone recomend some good preferably inexpensive or free graphic design programs that are fairly simple to use.
ive been using photoshop but its too complicated to use adn i can only do so much with the pictures that i have. i want to actualy be able to create pictures instead of just doctoring stuff.

You could get the Macromedia Suite, I think it has a few programs like Flash and Dreamweaver (an html writing program)
But it has Fireworks, which is like Photoshop only better if you want to put stuff on websites.
I dont know about creating pictures form scratch with Fireworks though, Photoshop is probably better at that if you know how to use it.

You don't have to buy the entire suite from Macromedia to get Fireworks, it can be bought by itself. The price in the bookstore near my home is 99$ for the Fireworks alone.
If you're comfortable with programming, POV-Ray is free and powerful. I prefer it over Maya (by Alias) even as it allows for more control than the sliders of Maya.
