Driving without pulley

As you may have heard, I lost my crank pulley.

Ive found a garage to rent to work on the car, but its gonna be very difficult to get a towtruck up there, do you think its gonna be ok to tow my car to the bottom of the drive, and drive it up on battery?

Or will the lack of a crank pulley damage other engine internals/block?

You should be alright as long as you are only running it momentarily...the worst that could probably happen is the timing belt could work off, but it is a non-interference motor so no biggie

I could put a pulley on it and thread on the remains of the bolt... theres some threads left on it

The timing belt should stay in place. The lips on the ends of the cam sprockets should keep it from walking off.

Best thing to do would be to have a friend follow you as you go, and jump you about every 10 minutes or so when your battery dies.

my main pulley fell off doing about 75 on the highway while passing someone. that was some scary shit. I love AAA

30 miles without power steering and alternator? Come on. I'd only do that if I was in grave danger. I'm not sure the battery would even hold up. That's a half hour on the freeway.

Batteries can go a few days with a failed alternator so 1500 feet will be nothing. Lack of power steering will be the issue. If it were any further, I'd recommend draining the system to make the rack workable.

Yeah, evolution movement is right. It should be fine. Your battery will run the engine for a long time. Spark, ECU, and fuel pump don't use much electricity at all. The stuff that kills it is the accessories (radio, headlights, hvac) and restarting - so avoid those.

Yeah, no power steering will be very difficult. It will be much worse than just having a manual rack. Wide radius turns will be ok, but it will be almost impossible to (for example) pull into a parking space.

Well, I figured my options were:

a) get towed 30 miles and pay $texas
b) get towed less than 30 miles and pay less

Turned out I made it the whole way!

It's not that bad. Low speed manuvers are a pain but it doesn't require superhero strength or anything.

I may have a small steering wheel, but you must still be a house then, since I had to use two arms at low speed and could almost not turn it when not moving. With no fluid it's tolerable.

yeah and after ignoring my idea of drilling out the busted ass bolt and retapping it, for 7 hours then they decided hey lets try that. Well needless to say that fixed it, and then three months later my pops was driving the car to work at 30 mph and it died, he figured it was just the timing belt. Nope turned out the engine lunched. Fucking cost me a ridiculous 1500 for a used fucking engine. damn that sucked, My dad said if he thought thats what it was he would have driven it into a rock and said a moose stepped out. that was a shitty few months

Well I managed to coax it 100 feet up my driveway, and when I say up, I mean up. My driveway is close to a 30 degree slope.

I couldnt get the damn AWIC back on, and it was pissing rain, so I just used some rubber hose and stuck the MAF housing straight onto the throttle... lol. It wont idle, of course, and seeing as there is nothing to give the MAF a clean signal as far as coherent airflow, it was surgey as all hell, but it made it.

Gonna get the battery charged up, take care of a few other details, and get it flatbedded out to the new garage tomorrow morning.

YAY! ILL BE ABLE TO WORK ON HER AGAIN <3
