I hate birds

Post by Wolfeyes88 »

Short story: Flock of doves + car going 60 mph = repair bills.

Both my headlights are trashed, windshield has an eight inch crack right down the middle, the grill is totally shot, radiator is punctured in THREE PLACES!, the hood is scratched to hell, and I'm still not sure that's everything.

I was just cruising down the highway, not even speeding(yet), when I suddenly hear FWAP(x5-15) and my windshield is covered in feathers and blood. My friend in the passenger seat just looked at me like "did that just happen?"

It's not that bad though, I was planning to get new lights and a paint job, maybe even a JDM grill if I could find one, but I really didn't want to put another new radiator in, and I certainly didn't want to put in new glass.

I like birds, but hate pigeons. They're vermin along with gulls. At least you took a few out.

One of my earliest memories was driving with my mom when I was 2 in our blue Ford Capri 1600 and hitting some sparrow/chickadee things. I remember the blood streaking across the windshield and the feathers stuck near the bottom. I think I said something like, "those two are dead." They just washed right off.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Flying rats, that's what they are. Sorry to hear about the repair bills.

Wow, I've never heard of birds punching through a radiator.
Cargo boxes are good for catching birds too.

Eh, the first few that hit the grill got it out of the way, then it was a clear shot to the rad. Damn beaks. I hit at least eight of the feathery bastards, and they were big too. I managed to get most of the feathers off, but a good portion of the blood dried before I could get at a hose.

This isn't the first time my car has sustained damage from hitting birds. My first time out on my own I hit an egret head on, it's beak went right through the windshield and stoped about six inches from my face.

All in all, it isn't as bas as I thought at first. A friend of mine has an extra radiator lying around, I can get the windshield done for about 80 where my cousin works, I had already worked out the paint with my brother-in-law... The lights are gonna be a problem. I can't find any OEMs that will be here in any decent amount of time, and decent quality aftermarkets are too expensive. Lucky for me I don't drive at night much. If I really need to I'll pick up a set of cheapo wal mart fogs and finagle them into place.

Anybody got a recomendations on good quality lighting options? HID's would be nice but is there an easy(and cheap) way pull it off with a 90?

@ferrari: Would If I could, but no digi. camera/scanner.

Don't know what they tasted like, I totally destroyed them. Have had fresh wild dove though, actually tastes better than chicken. Plus, wild game isn't pumped full of steroids and growth hormones and other nastiness.

Got the windshield done today, and I got the rest of the blood and feathers off. Sitting over my broth-in-laws house now trying to figure out a color for the paint. Right now it's between a high gloss black, Blitz Black, or metalic emerald.

Any ideas(other than eBay) where I can pick up a JDM Grill? Is there even a difference between the 90 USDM and JDM Grills? All the JDM parts I've found so far are for 02+ WRX's. :(
