Fender/Door braces

Post by 4subaru »

I was wondering if anyone has these on their car or are interested in them?

I've recently stumbled onto them and they look like a good idea, dont know if they would fit on our cars, but they look very interesting.

I haven't found any that fit our cars, but since i have experience with computer 3D modeling, i was going to design some for our cars, might even try for lower strut tower braces or sub frame connectors.

Shouldn't Impreza ones fit?

Yah, GC impreza lower strut bars, or control arm braces whatever you want to call them fit the legacy. They go for pretty cheap on ebay.

What years are the GC impreza and do you know if any of the other impreza braces fit?

GC is like 1993 to 2000 if I remember correctly.

Whiteline aftermarket front sway bars use the same part number between GC impreza and our legacy.

Front strut tower bars are the same too.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. The impreza and legacy have a lot in common.

GD door braces (like the ones made by GTSpec) won't work on our cars.

I don't know of any fender braces for the GC chassis that won't cost a hundred thousand dollars.

We did put the GTspec braces on an 05 STi (along with every other possible GTspec brace) and the results were amazing. The car had the chassis rigidity similar to another 05 STi we have with a rollcage in it. It was wild. Rollcage rigidity, without having to monkey over and around door bars. If there were some available for the GC chassis Impreza, I'd probably put them on the Forester to try and regain some chassis stiffness.

cn: gtspec fender braces work on gc chassis.

:edit: i just checked, and gc spesfic braces are now avaible from gtspec with different part numbers. but i do know that they do fit. A because i tried adn B because i sold some to someone on nasioc while working at rallysport

:edit 2: after examining the pictures i took under teh cobb time attack car adn teh pictures on the gtspec website i beive teh under braces namely the 3 piece set will work on teh gc and other compaibile chassis ie bc legacy. and here is why. any chages in length of the car are behind the tranny. i say this because i belive the legacy (im actualy not sure on this but still pretty posotive) has teh 3 piece tranny crossmember. the 1.8 gc trans crossmember was only a single piece yet the gd xmemeber fits as well as the newer gc 3 piece xmember rs et al. the only differences is in the h braces so thoes should be car spesfic. i think though youd have to use the gd h brace somehow so that you could use teh 3 piece brace kit.

i dont know about the door braces becuase ive never seen them (im pretty familar with the gtspec catologue up until april ish) but the fender braces do in fact fit the gc chassis so im sure though not posotive that they work on on the bc chassis since everything other than the extra 2 inch wheelbase is the same.

my garage mate while i was still putting in an effort on my gc had the gtspec braces for his bugeye. since my fenders were off i took one and lined it up. belive it or not the frame rail under teh fender has a hole thats tapped ( has a nut welded behind it) but pluged where the brace bolts up. their a perfect fit adn illl be getting some as soon as my car is finished

also nitrodon on nasioc just put the entire front wrx subframe on his gc. so i reckon ohter than the h brace which has already shown fittement issues with pre wrx downpipes (even though my entire exahust is for a wrx) all if not just most of the gtspec bracing will work on at least the gc.

I have fender braces from TIC (Turn in Concepts) on my '93 SS.

They replace an existing set of factory bent steel braces, so the holes are there to just bolt on.
I like them, they have made the front end more "planted". As we all know, this chassis need all the help it can get.

They are about $100.

FWIW - Other suspension mods include: Whitleline end links and rear lock bolts, Cusco F strut tower bar (version for the GC), and GR2's.
Old - '93 T-Leg - 14.693 @ 92.68 at 5800ft ASL (Bandimere Speedway)
New - 07 Spec B/stg 2

Pic of the TIC brace? I'll have to call Clint about a set for my SF. Especially if they are GTspec clones!

I looked at their web site, it looks like they just built a stiffer version of the stock braces. GTspec braces are triangle shaped with 4 mounting places while the TIC one has only two mounting places.

Within a couple weeks, I hope to design my own fender/door brace that will fit my 90 legacy. With any luck, I can mirror GTspec's design and have it it fit my car.

So are these the exact same as the RS braces from TIC?

Looking at the pic, it seems so, unless the dimensions are different.

I guess the real question is how hard are they to install? Some can be installed without taking off the fender (I think) with other cars that's impossible. What about our cars?

with the 2 pointers (tic) i think its pointless because well its no better than stock sti ones. youll need to take off the fender and 2 bolts on the door hinge

id get 3 pointers personaly (nasiga and gtspec). for thoes youll need to take off the fender and bascily the door

And they do what? I know, stiffer is better but is it a noticable improvement for the effort? Taking off the fender isnt really all that easy...

The 3-point ones seem unnecessary to me. The frame is there and is already stiff enough. The goal with these is to stiffen up the connection, which really only requires a better diagonal brace.

umm kinda but not the way i see it. if you look at the frame under teh fender and the way its shaped and what the brace is suposed to do youll see why the 3 pointers are better. the force pushes up but there is nothing in a 2 pointer that really keeps it down and flat. the 2 pointer only pulls down whereas the 3 pointers counteract the upward motion of the fender/frame as well as pulling down.
