2.0 JDM Legacy VS. 2.2 Domestic Legacy.
Im considering Importing a 1991 Legacy Turbo model from Japan. Since I live in Canada Import must be at least 15 years old. Imported cars have caught my eye and are very competativly priced.
More importantly, Its way easier to get the 5MT and Intercooler. I think they are also quad cam.
Is the japanese version of the legacy ss just that much better than our dummbed down version?

Yes... the Legacy RS is quite a bit faster/better car right out of the box...just get used to driving RHD though lol
My uncle had a well tuned 1990 Legacy RS...and it went like stank!

the plus on this will be low mileage. The downside is it will be all scratched up from shipping it.
I had a RHD Civic SiR, with low mileage, but mine was kinda beat up. It ran like a bat out of hell though. I HAD to sell it before anything major on it went wrong, cause I simply could not getg parts for it, even on Ebay.
If you get one, expect: new paint job, some rust repair, cause the cars over there that old do get pretty rusty in some wierd spots (acid rain) and replacement parts are a big BITCH to try and get. If you have a friend over in Japan it might help, but don't expect to find parts when yours breaks something. Everything on the car is pretty much different, from electrical components, to glass, etc............brakes, brake pads, lights, lenses, trim, wiper arms (they are built oppositely) etc etc... that is the downside.

I do installation work for a moving and storage companie here in BC.
And I see alot of Nissan Skyline, and Toyota Soarer's coming out of the crates. They are in great shape when they arive here.
And parts are always available. Just the price that can be a bitch. Tons of JDM import parts webstores and shit.

That seems like a good plan. You can't beat the EJ22 turbo block tho... I want to eventually import one and throw the ej22's bottom end in.

Actually the EJ20G closed deck motor is slightly stronger than the EJ22T
(larger shuffle pins in the mains=less chance for block walkage)

I always thought that the USDM EJ22 was the strongest.
Dang, I thought we actually got something better than everyone else for a change. Oh well

Don't believe everything you read on the intraweb. Strongest could be argued for weeks on end without any definitive "proof" one way or the other...createnew wrote:I always thought that the USDM EJ22 was the strongest.Dang, I thought we actually got something better than everyone else for a change. The 2.2 closed block isnt going to be very significantly weaker than the 2.0, I dont believe. the 2.2 is nice because its a 2.2, not a 2.0
Given the choice between a regular EJ20G and a regular EJ22T, I'd pick the 22T for the extra torque potential. They're proven to be reliable up to 400hp and beyond. I really dont think you can want for much more than that out of such a tiny engine.

I agree about the torque of the 2.2...it is quite significantSplinter wrote:The 2.2 closed block isnt going to be very significantly weaker than the 2.0, I dont believe. the 2.2 is nice because its a 2.2, not a 2.0
