WRX TMIC + Cruise Control = What BOV/BPV/DV Options?

Post by High PSI »

Ok, so:

1) Stock DV with the electrical box plate and 90 degree copper elbow off of the WRX TMIC.

What Else?

2) Turbo XS Type-H with Turbo XS Adapter?

What others have people gotten to work? Recirc. or atmosphere?

I thought it would be good to have all of these listed in one post for future reference... (and for myself for now  )

know anyone that can weld? try finding one of those weldable BOV flanged for the TMIC, then get some like 1" tubing and weld a 90 degree on it that angles off to the driverside?

is there a reason a stock WRX BOV wont work?

assuming you plumbed it back into the intake.

I think the recirc elbow gets in the way of the cruise cable, if not the throttle cable itself. It tends to bleed off a bit of air at idle, too, so if you pull the recirc elbow off you'll have problems at idle (in addition to the typical WOT problems of venting metered air to the atmosphere with an MAF car)

I'll have to take a closer look of where the WRX BOV would be.

I'm familair with the "issues" of venting to atmosphere.

you know... i'm really curious... i have a blitz bov, 100% atmospheric... and i'm not having any problems that i can find due to this... 3+ months of running it now.

i assume this is because i'm auto, and the only time it vents is when i'm taking my foot off the throttle; as opposed to venting during shifting on acceleration?

several guys up here are running the hks, and as far as i can tell, it's the loudest one out here.

my blitz has 2 settings, one low and one high. the low one makes almost no noise. the high one, makes the typical "pshht" noise. not too overbearing.

the hks ssqv whistles, unless you do the whistle delete.
it's very loud, and can attract a lot of attention.

It's also the only one i've noticed that triggers while revving the car in neutral...

Yeah. I've got the SSQV on my eclipse, though for the week I had it before the engine blew up, it was always recirculated, and wasn't that loud. I guess if I don't like the sound I can always steal the recirc. kit off of the Eclipse and run it on this car. I also have a "gold" and "purple" insert that came with it, so I could play around with those too to see if I like either of those sounds better.

I know what it sounds like and I like the sound...I just want to make sure that it will physically fit before I buy the thing. :?

gotcha...

judging by this photo on the hksusa.com site

Image

i should think it would clear the cables for the throttle, but when i looked on the site, i couldn't find any flange only kits for the wrx intercooler, just complete setups for $$$.

the only part of my BOV that comes close to the throttle cables in the flange itself, the rest of the BOV points to the drivers side fender away from the TB and cables.

hope that helps.

Hmmm....Well, it looks like that's off a WRX, but I guess they have the TB and CC cables on the other side. That does give me a good idea of how it comes off the TMIC, though, so the pic helps in that sense.

The deal I got is on a complete kit - SSQV with the flange, so I should have everything I need for the install. IF I pick it up. :-)

here's a photo from the same angle of my intercooler and bov.

the only thing you can't see in either photo is going to be depth of the connector between the flange and the bov itself...in my case it's a solid column, with the HKS unit it stands off the flange by a bit.

lol, a working website?

j/k,

yeah, obviously if you can recreate the stock environment with a recirc BOV you may as well...

however, like you said, there is a recirce kit for the HKS and if you can get a good deal on it... more power to you.

Plus in all honestly I love the sound of an atmos dump BOV. If it's going to cause drivability issues then to hell with it, but I've read good things on these boards about guys running atmospheric with the HKS SSQV or the Greddy Type-S. Also, I just put on my new 3" SS cat-less TBE and I'd love to scare the crap out of people with a couple fireballs between shifts.

ahhh I see!

Maybe a used Worx? Those are a dual stage BOV. They can be set to 50% Atmo dump 50% Recirculation.

I think Forge makes a dump valve that will clear it. And those are super cheap!

Check it out!

Yeah, I don't think those will work becase they use the stock WRX recirc fitting which angles straight into the CC cable, if not the TB cable as well. :(
