I was under my car today and noticed oil spray alll over the underside of the tranny. Upon further inspection, found a tear in the passenger side cv boot. Could this explain some of the hard vibration at low speeds when in AWD? And how expensive of a job is it to have replaced? Does the whole cv axle need to be replaced or just the boot?

Hard vibration at low speeds is not the CV, it's torque bind.

Get the entire axle replaced. You can either go with Genuine Subaru Axles for $100+ or get remanufactured ones for $60. Having one half-shaft replaced should cost one hour of labor...so ~$60.

I found a new one on ebay for 49. Are those gonna be good parts? And as far as the vibration, it isnt as bad since i rotated my tires but found my tires are clsoe to bald and in one has pitting in the tread

If the four tires on your car don't match exactly, you're asking for trouble.

They are the same exact tire, just one of them has a pit in the tread and they are all low on tread.

I'd be learing of buying CV's off ebay, but that just my own scepticism and I have no experience to base it off of.

The last time I did an axle was about three weeks ago and it cost 85 dollars for the new axle. However, I used to get them for 70 but that way my 93' and not my 96' OBW I have now. I suspect though the price just went up.

But for a quick temp solution, can i have it regreased and a replacement boot put on to allevaite the thumping i get when i turn

No. Waste of your money. You're not going to get rid of the clicking by just regreasing the boot. It's contaminated and that's that.
