M+S is it worth it?
I was thinking of buying a set of snow tires for my original painted wheels. I saw these on tirerack and they have good reviews.

is it really worth it to get more expensive tires like the bridgstones?

I'd like to order them today, what do you guys think?

You should buy my Blizzak LM-22's. They are Run-Flats!!!
Good snow tires make all the difference in the world when it comes to driving in the snow. Ask Art! He had the LM-22's on his snow-bound STi!

ok of the two what do you think? I was hesitant because when we do get snow here in Rhode Island its not more than maybe a day before the roads are completely clear and dry again. Is it really worth it to have on snows for the whole season when its just cold and dry but not really snowing the whole time?

The only issue with the winter tires is they are typically a softer rubber compound, so running them in warmer temps will cause them to wear more quickly.
It's entirely up to you....if the temps don't stay real cold, you could probably get by with all seasons. If you drive places that have snow, or just want good traction, I'd say get some snow tires. They help too in the ice.

Winter tyres make all the difference. Here in Slovenia they are mandatory. The problem of all season or summer tyres in cold weather is that they get too hard. Winter tyres have softer compound, but they get excessive wear when the temperature rises above 8 degrees centigrade. I would recomend you bridgestone blizzak LM 20 if you can locate them. They got top recomendations here in europe.
ok decided to buy some at the local tires place. they had
viking snows
Blizzak revos
toyo observe
yokomomas
The toyos had the best looking beefy tread pattern and coincidentally are the most expensive.. I'm thinking something that looks like a truck tire will be better. what do you think. I am so indecisive...

magicmike, by the way you describe your winter driving conditions...

... I think that a good all season tire will suffice. While we may get a little more snow in Toronto, our road conditions are similar to what you describe. I run BF Goodrich Traction T/A's on my Turbo sedan and I'm satisfied with their performance in the snow... of course the AWD helps alot. If it is important for you to specifically address snow conditions, then you could go for an all-weather type tire, such as from Nokian. They are mud/snow rated yet designed to be run all year long. I put Nokian WR's on the wifes Outback, they are excellent...when we do get snow here in Rhode Island its not more than maybe a day before the roads are completely clear and dry again. Is it really worth it to have on snows for the whole season when its just cold and dry but not really snowing the whole time?

I have a friend that works at a Firestone shop, so I bought some of the Winterforce tires for the winter. Compared to my all seasons, yes you really can tell a difference. The limit of the traction is much further with these. They also look really tough on the car. You can tell that they are softer, they squeal around corners easy, and you can feel the tire flex with aggressive driving. As soon as the snow goes away, they'll come off so it won't matter.
I paid like 35 a piece and put them on my spare steelies. Definately worth it, I can really feel a difference.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am just going to slap on the fairly new all season bridgstones that came on the car. I just need them mounted to the factory wheels.
