The one on the right is used on newer subarus, to my knowledge.
That doesnt mean its better for sure, but its likely.

at first glance the one on the right looks a little more efficient but who knows.

Yeah, I'd believe the impeller design on the right is more efficient

Every EJ water pump I've ever done, be the replacement pump an OEM or aftermarket, they have always looked like the right one.

My original water pump looked like the one on the right (cast impeller?). I replaced it with a new STi pump, which looks more like the one on the left.
