Paint Luster

Post by Dynamic Entry »

My Legacy has been driven in Alberta with snow and salty roads for 15 years. The paint is matte and almost blotchy looking in places. Do I need new paint to restore its luster or has anyone had good results from a wax or some other product designed to renew paint?

Have you tried to claybar it yet? That often has some amazing results on older looking paint.

no offence but anyone who has ever used that stuff will not agree. only way to clean it up is to use some cutting compound to get the dirt out (possibly even wet sand with 2k grit) then switch to a different pad and hit it with glaze to get the shine back. That's assuming of course that your clear coat isn't completely destroyed.

^^I agree with Mike......

Wet sanding and polishing would be the best, based on the state of the clear coat. I have done lots of wetsand/polishing with excellent results.

If you need some info, let me know.

You could try rubbing compund then polishing compound then re-wax it. thats what I did and it looks decent. You just have to keep a good coat of wax on it.

Be carefull with rubbing compoundm if you rub to hard you'll go right throiugh the paint.

Turtle Wax makes some good stuff.
