Everything - 2 turbo long blocks and a parts/project wagon

Post by evolutionmovement »

I'm selling everything Subaru but for my scale models and a couple GL things.

http://www.imagestation.com/5715148/4028658499

1990 fwd 5MT wagon, dark blue. The car runs excellent, but has no exhaust or radiator hooked up. Needs turbo exhaust or modified N/A to clear the turbo subframe so it can run and the N/A radiator should be OK temporarily. Rust is minor for this car as I spent $3k a few years ago fixing it with metal, however it could use a little help on the rear quarters (especially paint on the passenger side). There's a small bubble on the rear hatch under the window. 260k but more solid than many others I've been in. I loved this car enough to write it into three books and would like it to go to a Legacy guy. If you don't want ot fix the car please don't tell me, but it's of course your choice. But I have never had any electrical problem with this car whatsoever, nor wheel bearing issues (Mike? Care for a drive up from FL?).

Car has:
-front and rear strut tower braces. Rear is a nice solid Cusco lookalike and can be preloaded (as it is). Reduced squeaking significantly.
-Forester flat 5-spoke wheels
-small diameter 3-spoke steering wheel that does wonders for steering feel
-leak free manual sun roof sized specifically so that the lateral support across the roof that connects the B-pillars is not cut (unlike the factory ones)
-90mm Hella headlight conversion as seen in the thread under electrical with the same title. Never ended up welding new polycarbonate over the face to emulate a BMW so still has the lenses with the holes cut in them. They might look decent painted black or body color or whatever.
-yellow Hella 500 (the large round ones) fog lights that need to be remounted and rewired in
-external cold air intake with K&N filter

Car has brand new:
-turbo crossmember, cleaned and repainted with several coats.
-STI alloy control arms with ball joints
-brand new inner and outer tie rods
-poly rack bushings
This is all assembled on the car, but all tie rods are loose as it needs to be aligned. It has only been driven about twenty feet from my driveway into my garage with this installed.

About 10k miles on:
-WRX front brakes with crogenically frozen rotors and Hawk pads
-rebuilt turbo short block (running N/A) with new water pump and timing belt. Engine has under 100k on it total.
-alternator I bought used from Vikash. I know that's more than 10k, but it works great and has little more than 10k with me (replaced the original that died @ 247k)

Comes with:
-~175k turbo long block with rebuild started. Have all parts to complete as well as new water pump and timing belt.
-AWD open-diff rear end assembly that needs heavy cleaning. Has auto SS
-black SS interior; front and rear seats, door panels.
-turbo ECU
-complete turbo swap plumbing plus additional long block components from the throttle body to the turbo (so intake manifolds, two turbos, and two exhaust manifolds)
-shitty 4 y.o. replacement 'Lifetime Warranty' N/A radiator that I'll just say works
-turbo radiator that looks good, but the chassis will need some mod for it to fit
-brand new starter from AutoZone. Original starter has a very occasional dead spot in it and with the way they make rebuilt shit today I figure I wasn't going to replace it until the original one was completely dead. Having to smack it with a hammer every 6 mos or so was more reassuring to me.
-post face lift turbo front bumper, unpainted
-misc spare parts in boxes

What it needs that I know of for a complete AWD turbo swap:
-AWD gas tank and pumps
-transmission of choice
-manual driveshaft if that choice is 5MT

Recommended:
-badass alloy radiator in N/A size

The car will have to be towed, but everything should fit inside it.

I will let it all go for a big loss, but it all has to go at once (with the exception of the extra interior and turbo bumper if you don't want it since that won't fit with all the other stuff anyway).

The engines alone are worth what I want for the whole deal - $1500 BO. Special consideration for those who aren't crooked hatters looking for Impreza stuff.

Far more reliable even now than my sister's POS 2001 Outback.

Open to negotiation. Need to rent a truck for the tow? Take the cost out of the price of the car.

I really don't want to put this on NASIOC but I need to clean out this garage space. It's not that this car has suddenly become unworkable just that Lotus Elises have depreciated as much as the previous models. Fixing this car or using it as parts wouldn't be too expensive, but if I did it I'd spend $5k+ on a monster transmission and I can't justify that in my mind anymore.

You mean they make Subarus without wheel bearing problems???

(I actually have two noisy bearings again, the left front and right rear, the same they were before  )

It would be cool to finish your project Steve, but I have too many of those as it is. Thanks to that mono shit, I spent my Christmas break laying around doing nothing instead of working on the 79 like I planned...

Good luck with the sale. I hope you're not abandoning Subarus completely.

I'll check in from time to time, but I've felt for a while I need to move on. Some board members have made it easier and now that I've written in the car's demise I feel the last excuse to keep it is gone. Were it an automatic I know three people I could give it to, but whatareyougonnado?

In order for a new door to open an old one must close. The Subaru's got to go so I can open the Lotus door. I'm hoping to get one by summer. I always wanted something like an old Elan and the Elise is the modern equivalent. Plus the roof comes off and I live on a beautiful coast line. I'm ready to enjoy being on this planet.

Were I blessed with a surplus of garages I'd keep the wagon, though my motivation for it is gone so I'd have to be rich enough to pay someone to finish it. It would likely cost me about 10k in parts (including a bullet proof transmission) and in the end it's a gas sucking old station wagon that's lost its invisibility to the police. The Lotus won't be good for that either, but it gets better mileage and from the light cars I've owned before, will go through brakes and tires far less. Plus I think it's gorgeous and it handles beyond what any heavy wagon could do.

A friend of mine who's a Lotus guy and a semi-retired millionaire got me to realize that there are just too many cars to get stuck on any one. He's owned almost 40 cool sports cars and keeps changing them out. Right now he has a notch-back 356 and Elan he's finishing restoring.

The main reason I need to lose this Subaru stuff is my problem of not letting go of the past related to a fear of change. I've found that in the last few years every time I've flipped off fear It's worked for the better. And why live in the past when it sucked (even if the car was the bright point, which only proves how bad it sucked!)?

My new attitude has made a big difference apparently. I no longer look in the mirror and see a killer (to be) like my character and I think I no longer give that impression, however unconscious it might have been. Now I have a house that I'm having a blast redesigning, am looking for my dream car, my books will eventually be published, and I have women hanging on me. They're finally pursuing me, which is great since I have no patience to pursue them.

Yes, as in everything, I put a ton of thought into this decision. Too much probably.

Peace to the guys I've known for a while who are still here, I'll be checking in occassionally, but who knows how often once this car is gone.

Send me your email address and I can send you a bunch of present pics of the car, extra engine, and misc.

There's no big rush if you need to secure a trailer or whatever. I just want it gone by April so it gives me a few weeks to clean the garage and maybe paint the floor before I go serious hunting.

That Studebaker sounds sweet. If I weren't making room for a Lotus I'd be getting something else anyway. I like that weird stuff. I was eyeing a Saab Sonnett III around here the other day and a '56 Cadillac hardtop that I thought was way under valued. Too many cars I can afford now to be obssessed with just one anymore.

I agree.. the studebaker is really sweet.

also have a line on a lifted '80s subaru wagon

oh me oh my the cars oh me oh my!

if you have some time, that's even better for me to straighten things out, but by all means if someone comes along with the cash before I can stretch it... take it

If I part it out it will never go away. The control arms are installed anyway.
