EJ20G ignitor question

For various reasons, I dont want to go coil on plug. I also have to put in an MSD DIS-2 system. So, anyone know how I would go about hooking the the EJ20G wiring harness and EJ22T ignitor up to the EJ22T coilpack, through the MSD?

Which ECU are you using?

Autronic WRX 94-96 replacement board

So you're still using the "stock" ecu which was 4-triggers....to run the ignition?

I'm not really sure how you'd convert that to a wasted spark setup...

Run the channels for cylinder 1 and 2 to the front half of the ignitor and coil, and run cylinders 3 and 4 to the other half. Stick diodes on the leads coming out of the ECU, to protect the drivers.

At least, that makes sense in my head.

What exactly does the ignitor do?

Why aren't you using a DIS-4?

Havent gotten the unit yet.

Would it make it easier?

Yes. It's 4 channel versus 2 channel.

haha! I figure it out I think.

The ignitor basically just acts as a ground control box.

All the coils get a constant 12V+ supply. When the ecu fires a cylinder, it sends a signal level pulse to the ignitor, which opens a ground path for that coil.

Therefore, if I take the USDM coilpack, hook up the 1/2 coil to both the 1 and 2 outlets of the JDM ignitor, it'll ground whenever either path is activated, so it'll run wasted spark. Also do the same for the 3/4 signals

Or you could run modern WRX coils, which have individual built in ignitors. This is what I am going to do long term on my car...

Then I have to figure out how to wire them, and I have to buy the coils

I dont have the manifold harness for the EJ20G
