g-force performance awic

I can't seem to find any info on the G-force performance awic for our cars. The searching I have done hasn't gotten me anywhere. I have contacted a member who has one on his car, but it was on it when he bought it and doesn't know where it came from. Any an all help would be appreciated. Does anyone know where they come from or are they out of business? Thanks.

The only AWIC other then stock that I'm aware of was made by the guys in Colorado....and have been under many different names.....and basically screwed a lot of people.

So if it's the same setup I'm thinking of....you probably won't find one "new".

The custom-bent turbo to IC Al tubing is sweet I think. 8)

I believe the core itself is ~2in thick and ~10"W x 5"T (I'll measure and get back to this thread later)

The Cooling fluid (about 50/50 anti/water) is routed through 2 front mounted heat exchangers (about 8"W x 10"T x 1.5" D..... or so, that's off the top of my head, and again I'll get beter measurements and report back). You can see them here

Coolant is pumped around with *some* Johnson pump (can't read model #'s or anything).

As I replied to your PM Jefferson, it seems to work well in short bursts (like a awic should) but could use some more fluid reservior as it has NO extra fluid than whatever is in the system. I know it gets cooked as I climb Mnt passes and am on boost very frequently.

H2O is a great conductor, something around 25x more effective than water (again, speaking in rough terms).... but it also has that much Harder of a time releasing that heat once soaked. The water must be cooled by air at the heat exchangers, which, as stated, is less efficient than when it took heat out of the intake charge.
I think that a Good awic setup must have ample front mount heat exchanger setup (I'd like to get a aftermarket Cobra piece) and a bunch of extra water in reserve (I'm going to get on that 1st - it's cheaper and the best bang for the buck)


I do like it though - it's compact and well built. I thgought for some reason it came from the land down under...?


Josh, I know who you're thinking of (but can't remember the name) and I believe that they had barrel style cores that they built.

There are a few good awic threads on nasioc, Chad Block had some cool stuff in development but has not materialized (sweet custom cores and whatnot)

I kind of had a feeling that whoever made them might be out of business due to the results of my searches, or I should say lack of results. They also don't appear to be a popular mod as I didn't read much about them. I really like how compact the unit is and it doesn't look too hard to plumb. How big is your radiator for the unit?

spearco makes some pretty sweet awic's but not a bolt on kit.

so the actual measurements are:

Core of extractor - 1.5" thick, 12.5" wide, 5" tall

Exchangers (2 in parallel): 1.5" thick, 7" wide, 8" tall


So I have almost 2x as much effective area in the release of heat from the system as taking it in.

Good luck finding any additional info :(

And yeah, if I remember right the thermal conductivity of water is about 25x that of air. Of course this isn't exactly water, but 50/50 glycol/distilled water would be pretty close.

There would be much more to consider when designing an awic system I'm sure, but the concept is clear: It's much easier to take the heat out of the charge than it is to take the heat out of the exchange medium.

The main advantage of an AWIC setup on subaru motors compared to the stock TMIC is that you get a more consistent air temperature, and if sized properly, should not get heat soak.

I'm still amazed to feel the AWIC after a run on the highway in cold weather. It and the throttle body are pretty cold. Around town traffic, things heat up a little more, but I really feel if I can get a hold of the stock radiator (more capacity & higher flow rates) I'll have a pretty damn good system.
