So with all the information, and the recent info form subyluvr, is the best rack for our cars the stock one? I keep hearing about the GT rack, but it's slower: 16.5:1 vs 16:1?
Is the Non-turbo rack and the turbo rack the same?

The GT rack is indeed slower. I researched it in the FSMs.
In fact, the ONLY EJ-series rack that is quicker than ours is the STi. Even the WRX ones are slower than ours.
Turbo and NA racks are the same, same part number even.
I currently have a brand-new, OEM, steering rack, with Whiteline bushings, with the smaller JDM Momo steering wheel.
It's almost dangerous how quickly the steering reacts; I've overcut corners on several occasions since. It's been an interesting practice in recalibrating my driving style.
Conversely, everytime I drive my girlfriend's RS (original rack and bushings), I almost think there's something wrong with it because the steering reacts so slowly in comparison.

I need to replace my rack soon.......
Nice info to have. I noticed mine was leaking where the pinion shaft enters the rack housing while I was installing my superpro rack bushings.
Need to rebuild my pump and replace the return line first, though.

That's really interesting to know our rack is quicker.....I thought it was said to have been slower.....someone swapped racks before and said it felt better with the newer GT rack....hmmm
I still think a good idea to reduce assist is to replace the relief valve spring with a slightly less sprung spring, which will relieve pressure at a lower pressure, and "should" reduce the amount of assist. However, I'd have to probably send the spring off to be checked....and then try a few different ones to see what worked best.
Hell I could probably make my own test rig. I'd just need to get a hold of one of those springs......anyone have a dead power steering pump they could pull the spring from?

I have a spare.
I'm gonna rebuild it and replace my current one with it. Once that's done, I have no use for the one that's on there now.

I have much tighter steering with a smaller diameter steering wheel and slightly wider tires.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Yeah, the smaller wheel helps too. I had the Momo wheel on before I swapped racks, and I noticed a difference then.
I posted it in that thread where I was speculating on what rack to buy, but I actually ordered a brand-new OEM BD/BK GT rack, and then did that research. That rack sat there for over a month while I decided whether I wanted to just go with that rack or eat the 20% restocking fee and get the correct rack. I ended up doing the latter
Could someone who replaced their rack with a GT one have also replaced the bushings, and mistakenly attributed the "better feel" to supposedly having a quicker rack when it was really the new bushings?
I have some PS pump rebuild advice of my own, but I'm gonna put it in Josh's thread for ease of reference and keep this thread about racks.
