Upgrade to 4 puck (from 6), or get better pressure plate?

Post by douglas vincent »

I have a Forester flywheel, 02 RS pressure plate and unsprung 6 puck disk. Making 300 whp, 320 torque..... Clutch slips when shifting from 3rd to 4th on full power.....

What would cure my ills? Better pressure plate, or 4 puck? Or both.....

In a 1990 Legacy 5speed tranny.

I'd go with a stronger pressure plate if you can find one by itself

get a ACT pressure plate. :-D

are you using the forester flywheel to keep the rev's up when you shift?

I would just do the pressure plate Doug...a 4 puck will be waaaaaay too on/off for a Subie tranny...

I run a sprung ceramic 6 puck and a Spec Stage 2 PP, and I have no problem hooking up power

Is this the same stock tranny or have you blown any?

I broke the original tranny with a bad mishift getting into traffic.... Don't every NOT get it into 2nd at full boost and 6500 rpm....

Looks like I will be keeping the 6 puck and getting a better clamping pressure plate.

+1 for upgrading the plate. The ACT heavy duty pressure plate will be sufficient.

I have the 4 puck sprung that ACT sells, doug; plus their light flywheel and stiff pressure plate.

being a cable clutch, the pressure plate has noticeable feel increase on the pedal, but it's not too stiff that it wears my leg out or anything; the clutch is like a switch, if you're not slipping it at 2500+ then expect to get your jaw shaken loose, it chatters a lot and takes a lot of feathering to get the car to move at low rpms without excessive chatter.

just thought you'd like to know! ;)
