I have an 07 WRX intercooler in my garage. If you wouldn't mind passing on what you do to fit the IC, I'd appreciate it.

I'd go mess with mine, but I have a bad back :\

man, my turbo makes shit hot, this is the 2nd y pipe ive cause to leak from turbo heat, and theres no fuckin hood on my car right now!. apart from the various 90* angles trying to get a TMIC to work, they suck plain and simple, EBAY has FMIC kits for like 270$ shipped, cheapo but theyll do the job. FMIC FTW!!!

If the presenting problem is heat from the turbo, I would have to say a heatshield over the turbo would help things.... I certainly plan on putting a heat shield on my car. I might even vent the turbo out of the engine compartment with some sort of simple snorkel.

The turbo is a major source of heat as is the downpipe. If you can eliminate some of their heat especially while the car is sitting (heat rises) - heat soak in the tmic would probably decrease substantially.

Basically, if you are having issues with turbo heat that is not due to a different problem, stopping the turbo from venting into the rest of the engine bay with either a snorkel or a heatshield, might be a good idea.

Wouldn't header wrap work just as well as a heat shield, you'd obviously have to keep it away from the WG. Might also help keep the exhaust side of the turbo hot. I remember reading a post about it:

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... =turbo+hot

Header wrap would be a cheap way to go.

Heat sheild on the turbo is not really the issue. A lot of things cause heat soak besides the turbo. I mean, you shouldn't be melting anything... But, a TMIC is going to suck for drag, autoX, rallyX, etc... regardless of whether you have a heat shield no the turbo.

Hey can anyone tell me if the cast 90 deg y-pipe elbows between an 03 and an 06 TMIC are any different? Looking at pictures i cant imagine they would be but want to be sure.
Thanks

EDIT: Buddy of mine who works parts at suburu has confirmed the elbows and y-pipe are the same part#'s as with previous wrx TMIC's

PS. Where are the install pics!!??!!

No way will a pre-06 y-pipe fit an 06 intercooler. I have a crinkle red cast y-pipe that will not fit my 06 intercooler, but it will fit my 03 intercooler. The inlets into the cooler are spaced about an inch farther apart in the 06.
EDIT: I understand you to be talking about the small cast peices to clamp the y-pipe to. I should take care to read more better. lol

I used some 1 1/2" plumbing abs and a 45* "WYE" from home depot. I used couplers with worm clamps to attatch the hard pipe to the cast pieces on the intercooler, all found in the same aisle in home depot. I'll take some pics.
