Well I found a Ghetto style of making a stock turbo exhaust sound nice.

Remove the two screws from the mid pipe and axle back and remove the gasket. Cut a small portion of the bottom of the gasket out like this:

I found this out when swapping in my EJ22T - I really wanted to drive it but didn't have a good gasket (the bottom part was missing). If its just sound your looking for that will do it (I'm doubtful there's any horse power gain at all). It passes a little exhaust at low RPM and at high RPM more exhaust passes throught the muffler. In other words at low RPM you have nice rumble sound (sounds nice going through town - but not rattle your brains out loud) but when you stomp on the gas it sounds just a little louder than stock.

Plus your total cost is probably only the cost of the two bolts and nuts you have to replace doing it...and maybe some gasket material if yours is completley rotted away.

If you have problems with inspection (emmisions) you only have to replace a couple dollar gasket that way.

Like I said it's ghetto...but it does work. Your muffler might take on a little more moisture and dirt but I didn't have a problem for the 6 months I ran like that. Since you want to replace it anyway this might curb your cravings while you save your pennies.
I just posted this yesterday...but it does sound cool. It works good for crusing around and being quiet when you wanna be.

I love the sound of my open downpipe.

I drove around for a few weeks with no axle back and it would give me a headache after about 20 minutes. It sounded pretty cool though.

thou is crazy.. do the cops care up there on how loud your car is?

down here if you have a fart can for an exhaust they freak out and pull you over.

I cut the muffler off of my old car before I installed the CES kit. It sounded sick.

I used to drive JUST open downpipe for months at a time. I'm a ricer.
