sybir's 92 SS

Post by sybir »

The new toy.
92 Legacy Sport Sedan (2.2l non-intercooled turbo)
WRX TMIC
RWD-converted 2.5RS transmission
WRX LSD R160/WRX axles
Tein Flex coilovers (GC8 fitment)
99 2.5RS wheels (one of my old sets)
01 RS wheels (amazingly, not one of my old sets)
Grant steering wheel (will be replaced with a QR setup)
Alpine MP3 deck

I think that's it. Needs some little stuff sorted out, and some new tires (who would have thought?) If anyone has some cheap 16" tires they want to get rid of, let me know :D

For now, I'm enjoying having my own car back (and the wagon should be back shortly as well)

And my other car (I know, not a BF, too new)

Nice SS, and as always, nice BG.

Do you have stairs in your house?

:D

As to what's going on with the wagon, I popped the HG's, and dropped in a new JDM EJ25, then the tranny popped, so I grabbed a yard tranny, which was dead, then had that rebuilt and it comes back today to get tossed in.....I miss my wagon, it's been down for over 3 months through various delays and the fact that it's a hook-up project in the back of my buddy's shop :)

The SS has 352k on it (and an older repaint) and the OB has 240k. Not too bad for old dogs!

Wow. Both cars are incredibly beautiful.

And as an OBW owner, I never realized they could look so good as yours. I mean, wow. May I ask what you have done suspension wise and if your headlights are custom. Is there another forum you frequent that I could go searching?

I'm on sl-i as well as an admin over on i-club.

Thanks for the comments on the cars. I can't take any credit for the SS, but the OB an ongoing 7 year project, and I think i'll keep it around until the wheels fall off.

There's a big thread here that chronicles that car from day 1.
http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68335

To answer your specific questions, suspension on both cars is Tein type Flex coilovers (GC8 fitment on the SS, GDB STi fitment on the OB) with Whiteline sways, endlinks, rear strut bar, and ALK on the wagon. The headlights are Morettes, with a LHD e-code projector low beam with a 6k HID setup, and normal reflector main beams. All Hella optics. The fogs are just amber 500's with yellow rockblocker on them to make them super-yellow as I liked the look and inclement weather visibility better. JDM rear lights and sidemarkers and a grill are the only other body mods besides an OEM wing; jsut pulling off the pinstriping, lowering, and tinting it makes a huge difference; here's a comparison at my old shop with a bone stock 97 Limited and mine in one of its early iterations.

My mirrors passed below his, so the car is considerably lower, and is lower now than in that picture (that was on GC's on WRX struts.)

They *did* say "I <3 drifting" and "I <3 racing", but I riped them off along with the rest of the dorifto stickers to clean it up a bit.

It needs some work before I start hucking it sideways reliably, like getting it out of limp mode......and non-shredded tires (like, tires with chunks out of the sidewalls)

More to come this weekend.

Hey Sybir whatsup? Is this the '92 youve had for a while, or wasnt that a wagon?

That sedan looks clean. Too bad its RWD. You should take that out for a drive with us, ive been trying to get some NorCal legacy owners together without much success.

Good memory. This is the replacement for the red wagon; that car had a 5MT swap, 16g, etc, but was a total basketcase after I sold it the first time and it went through a few years of neglect and abuse; the last owner (that I bought it back from) tried, among other things, to mod EF Civic headlights to fit, replaced the scratched rear bumper with a mauve one (wtf?), tried to fix boost leaks by disassembling the top half of the motor and putting it back together with gasket sealer, and while it was sitting in a buddy's backyard, his kid accidentally took out the rear quarter window with a baseball. The car was beat down and boonie-crashed by the previous owner, and my buddy who was working on it sinc eI had no time asked if I'd rather take his sedan in trade so he could use the wagon as a winter beater.

It had been sitting since he picked up a 240; started up first crank after 3 months and runs pretty well, considering it has 350k on it. I need to go through some wiring, and fix some little stuff, but it bombs on the highway and will be fun to play with once I put some decent tires on it; I didn't buy it to be "OMGDORIFTOOOOOOOCOOL!!!!!!" but becuase it was a solid DD, which I needed until the wagon comes back, and it will go to another good home when I pick up a buddy's STi in a few months.

And now, clean pics in normal damn light.
Anyone who doesn't already know my threads wreck 56k, you know now ;)

Ripped off all the stickers, tossed on a wood wheel until I get my QR setup back, new tires, and it's raised about 1/2" in the front becuase it was rubbing not just on the fender liner but on the fender brace..................and stuff. Rides a ton better, now doesn't rub anywhere, and I (and by I mean Paul@DB) can start playing with the wiring so I can get the thing to stop pulling timing and really start boosting.

Still, not bad for 350k miles.

by far the cleanest prettiest one I've seen. I love the wheels and would like to rub my freshly shaven applesack on them.

I know, funny part is that he sold the wagon to me a few years back, then I sold it to your sister, then phil, then back to me, then back to Nate :D
