May be getting an '05 GT

Post by MPtyza »

Went to go see it today. It's a 2005 Legacy GT sedan with a manual tranny. Silver, and has 33,700 miles on it. So I take it out on the road, and the first thing the dealer says to me is, 'just try to keep it under 100'. So I get on the highway, and I gotta say I'm impressed with the 5th gear acceleration. I wanted the damn thing the second I saw it was under 20 grand, and driving it only made it worse for me :D

The only problem is that I don't make enough to get the loan without a co-signer, unless the fact that I don't have rent to pay helps me out like the guys at the dealership say. I'll find out Monday afternoon. Maybe they'll let me do the first month's payment as my down payment, they mentioned that.

It'll be nice to not have to worry about parts breaking, then being hard to find replacements, and all that happy crap. All my cars have had crap go wrong with them after I buy them, but then again I've never owned a car newer than '96. Sorry for the long post, but I'm kinda excited about it, even though I may need to have a co-signer.

I was in the same boat as you. All I had for credit was my credit card for about two years. Everyone denied me, but then went to the credit union that my parents go to and they approved me. I was actually surprised to get it on my own. Hopefully it works out for you. I like mine a lot.

All he told me about my credit was that I was in tier 2, with tier 1 being best. Surprised the hell out of me though :D

I'll do what I have to to be able to bring this car home without a co-signer. Even if I have to borrow the down payment money from a friend, but I need the damn car. :D Never went through this over a car I drove. I mean I had every intention of trying to buy it when I first saw it, but just had to get the test drive in there

If I do get it, I will take plenty of pictures, if I can stop driving the damn thing

Just some solid info for used car buying....

I work at a used car dealership (I work the internet, upload photos, and play porter when we get exotics in)... I would say 60% of the cars that come into most used car dealerships have had a varying level of bad to not so bad accident that has been repaired (fyi, not all repairs are created equally).

Of that 60% about 10% has had frame damage.

Subaru will keep cars that come off lease that are in good shape. They will sell the rest of the crap off at auction. This crap ends up on used car lots...

Carfax is horsesh!t. Most of the cars I see have a clean carfax REGARDLESS of having been hit. Well, its a good starting point, but NOTHING beats an on lift inspection by someone who knows what they are doing... What carfax is important for, is to see where the car was driven and how the dealership took ownership (see below)

Check to see that all paint is properly matched. Feel the interior ridge of the door skin where it meets the door panel. If the car has been painted and you couldnt tell by looking, this is where you will feel it... Make sure the car is clean when you check for damage... Dirt hides damage...

Check to make sure all body gaps are of equal size.

Borrow a micrometer if you have a friend in the car biz - this is a sure way to know if any metal has been manipulated....

Go drive a new similar car and then re test drive this one... I used to think bmws all drove like crap... I was wrong... 85% of the ones I see drive like crap because they have been used in city like conditions and have been beat to hell... (Even the low mile cars)

Also as an fyi - all dealerships do this... 1-2 points (percent) interest is going to be added to your interest rate... BEAT the guy up over the interest rate AND the price - IT IS YOUR JOB to get the best price possible.... IT IS THE SALESMANS JOB to rip you off. He is not your friend....

If he tells you he's giving you only x dollars over what he paid, ask to see his purchase slip to prove it... IF the dealership bought the car at auction (from above - carfax will tell you where they got the car from) - he WILL have an auction slip - ask to see it...

Ask for a copy/ies of your credit report from any and ALL bureaus they requested it from.

Ok, Im done rambling...

Good luck!!!

It was a trade in at a local Toyota dealership. It was spotless, and I checked for all the usual crap like that. Everything seems to be in order there. Looks like the day it was new.

Well, found out earlier that the GT isn't happening. Not now anyway. I'm gonna need a co-signer, and I don't have anyone I can trust that has good enough credit. Went and got all excited for nothing :x

I'll just save my money for a couple months to have a nice down payment, maybe that'll change things, along with actually paying off my credit cards closer to on time. I will still be in search of an 05 GT under 20 grand though. When (not if :-) ) I get one I'll post pictures though.

Right now the other key is that the car must be in the state of PA, as I can't leave the state for a while

I can probably get you a decent deal on one of these.... I can do $1000 over wholesale all day long... BUT, Im in NY....

I can check whats running at the auctions - most of the cars there are junk, but once in a while you can get a real cherry on the cheap...

We also have in house financing and I can try to make sure you dont get ripped...

Shoot me a pm if youre interested... :-)

*edit*
OK, nevermind that.... :-D
